Backend page editing does not save

This support ticket is created 6 years ago. There's a good chance that you are reading advice that it now obsolete.

This is the technical support forum for Toolset - a suite of plugins for developing WordPress sites without writing PHP.

Everyone can read this forum, but only Toolset clients can post in it. Toolset support works 6 days per week, 19 hours per day.

Hi!

I've got an issue with saving a page with the Toolset layouts editor. When I click the save button nothing happens. The page is saved in the backend, but the changes are not shown in the frontend. Sometimes I get the "There was an error during the ajax request, make sure the data you send are in json format." error message.

I tried disabling all the other non-Toolset plugins, but that didn't work. Also deleting and recreating the entire page from scratch resulted in the same error.

Do you have any suggestions what I can try to fix this?

Hi Tim,

Thank you for contacting us and I'll be happy to assist.

Are you experiencing this issue while editing a particular layout or is this happening with different layouts, randomly?

I'll suggest checking browser's console for any errors/warnings while editing the layouts, as explained in this guide:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Your_Browser_to_Diagnose_JavaScript_Errors

In case there are some errors and/or warnings, please share a screenshot.

It would be also a good idea to check with your hosting support team, to see if there are any errors recorded in the server's error logs or if there is a cache or security policy applied on the server, which could affect the WordPress' AJAX calls/requests.

I hope these points will help and let me know if you have any further information or question.

Hi!

Here is a screenshot of the console: when clicking the 'save' button the error pops up.
The issue at the moment is only for this one particular page called 'Admin'. I tried renaming the page but that did not work.

Hi Tim,

Thank you for sharing the screenshot.

Unfortunately, the information from the screenshot is not very conclusive and I'll need access to the admin area, for further troubleshooting.

You can share temporary admin area login details, in reply to this message. Your next reply will be private, which means that only you and our support team will have access to it.

Please also share the link to the "Admin" page which has the issue and it is very important to make a complete backup of the website, before sharing the access details.
