Hi,

I'm having a problem that updates for Toolset Views are not appearing on the list of Installed Plugins. When I go to the Toolset updater (Add New -> Commercial), Views doesn't appear on the list at all.

I can see that I currently have v3.2.2.1 installed on this site, but the latest version in my account is 3.3.4.

Toolset is correctly licensed on the site, and I'm receiving updates for other plugins. I've got Views installed on around 45 other sites, and it seems the same on all of these.

Could you look into what the problem is please?

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Thank you for getting in touch.

Actually this is a changed made by our development team as views is being rebranded as blocks. In order to download the views updates you will need to get them from the legacy tab of our downloads page.

Thanks,

Hi Shane,

OK thanks.

I'm still a bit confused when you say that View is being rebranded as Blocks. Perhaps you can clarify what that means for me?

Does that mean that Blocks still provides all the functionality that Views did? Can I just drop in Blocks on existing sites to replace Views and still have all the shortcodes working as they did? I'm not planning to rebuild all the existing sites using the block editor!

Thanks,

Chris

I'm now seeing the Views updates listed in the Toolset updater once again, so it looks like that has been reinstated.

Hi, Shane is unavailable this week so I'm checking on his outstanding tickets.

Yes, the Blocks plugin still allows all the functionality of legacy Views shortcodes. You could deactivate the Views plugin and activate the Blocks plugin, and maintain the existing functionality of your site. Both plugins are essentially identical right now, the main difference is in the default selected editing experience for Views, Content Templates, and WordPress Archives. When Blocks is active, the default editor is the Block editor. When Views is active, the default editor is the legacy code-based editor. If you want to use the legacy editor with the Blocks plugin active, you can enable the legacy editor in Toolset > Settings > General, and vice-versa: with Views plugin active, you can activate the Blocks editor in the same location.

I'm now seeing the Views updates listed in the Toolset updater once again, so it looks like that has been reinstated.
You are correct, in recent history we stopped "pushing" updates for legacy Views and Layouts. Those plugins were removed from the automatic installer because of confusion among new Users, who were installing Blocks, Views and Layouts on the same site unnecessarily. Late last week we reinstated "pushing" updates for legacy plugins like Views and Layouts because this was causing major compatibility problems between older versions of Views and newer versions of Types and Maps.

Great, thanks Christian. I've been a bit confused what the relationship between Block and Views was, but that's clarified things for me!

My issue is resolved now. Thank you!
