I have a custom post type which has a search page with a map view and filters. I want to use that page to be it's archive page. How should I do this?

Thanks

Also I did try adding the custom slug but it still goes to the archive page itself, just with a custom slug. I want to actually tell it to go to a different page AS the archive page.

Hi there

For your custom post type you can either keep the archive page and customise it, adding custom search filters and a map as required.

Or you can go to the settings for your custom post type and in the options specify that the post type does not have an archive (screenshot). Then the URL you would normally associate with the archive (the CPT slug) should be available for something else (e.g. a static page).

Thanks, Nigel.
The problem with the first way is that I would then have to maintain two identical pages, so that won't make sense. It's the search page with the map. I don't want two of them.

The problem with the second way is if I uncheck "has archive" then it disappears from my breadcrumbs. I'm using SEO Press. So if you are on a single CPT post, then there is no "parent" main category type page to get to in breadcrumbs.

Is there not a way to check has archive but tell it with a snippet the page you want to use for the archive page?

What about doing a 301 redirect?

Hi,

Thanks for writing back.

The 301 redirect is a good option since you won't have to maintain two identical pages and there will be no negative SEO impact too.

Ok thanks, what is the best way to do that? I don't see that any of my plugins have a 301 direction manager.

Yes, Toolset also doesn't include any built-in redirection management features either.

There are a number of third-party plugins available for this. Here is an article that reviews some of the popular options:
