Tell us what you are trying to do?
In the previous version of forms, either images or files could be uploaded to the "file" field type and thumbnails would be displayed when the uploaded media was an image.
In the new version, when an image is is uploaded to a file field type, the file name but no thumbnail is displayed on the form.
When an "image" is uploaded to an image field and the new media library upload process is selected, thumbnails are displayed which is great, but non-image type files can't be selected using the new media library process.
I have many fields where users upload copies of documents. These are created by either scanning or photographing paper forms. Many users using many different devices and processes means my CRED form field needs to be able to accept both images and document files like PDF and it needs to be able to display a thumbnail if it is an image.
Can you suggest a workaround for me to allow non-image file types to be selected in the new upload image process? This would solve the problem and be more reflective of the native wordpress functionality where the process is about uploading MEDIA as opposed to an image or file.
Hi Mark,
Thank you for contacting us.
Your observation is correct and the thumbnail of the uploaded file(s), is shown only for the "Image" type field, but not for the "File" type field. Also, the image type field only allows the images for the upload.
I'm afraid, there is no quick workaround available, to enable the thumbnails for the file type field or use image type field for the other files, but you're welcome to submit a feature request, through our dedicated form at:

For now, you can use two separate fields in the form, one for the image uploads and the other for non-images and include a note about this for the users to use these fields, accordingly.

Waqar
