I'm trying to set up a date range filter slider for my page. I asked ChatGPT how to do it and it says that there should be a block called 'WP-Views Filter' or just 'Filter' I should be able to add to a page. But I don't see one. It says that I should be able to select 'Slider' as a format for that filter - that would be amazing! So does this actually exist, or is ChatGPT just dreaming?

Here are the full instructions it gave me:

Go to the "Toolset" menu in the WordPress admin area and click "Views."
Click the "Add New" button to create a new view.
Select the post type that you want to display in the view and click "Next."
Give your view a name and select "Grid" as the display format, then click "Finish."
Customize the layout of your view as desired using the Toolset Blocks.
Add a "Filter" block to the page.
In the "Filter" block, select the custom taxonomy that you want to add the range slider filter to.
Under "Type," select "Range."
Enter the minimum and maximum values for the range.
Customize the label text and other settings as desired.
Save your changes.

Hello. Thank you for contacting the Toolset support.

I do not think chatGTP is valid tool here to get solution for the technical things. it will show you answers but you can say it will be half or misleading information sometimes.

I would like to know how exactly you want to add the range filter?

Do you want Start Date and End date filer with your view where user can select the start and end date and based on that provided input the view should filter the posts?

Do you have any example what kind of range filter you want to implement based on what custom field?

Hi Minesh, thanks for the reply. I thought it would be confusing but hey, need to try out the new tech 😉

My website is a database of texts in philosophy. They are categorised by topic, and now I want to add a filter which will allow users to filter the archive and search results to display only texts written at a specific time (e.g. from 1750 - 1830). I thought I can do that by creating a custom taxonomy or custom field where I input the dates for each entry, and then get a filter on the front end to allow users to select the date ranges. The best and easiest way would be to make it so users can select the dates by using a slider - quite like the sliders shopping websites have to select a price range for products.

Is there a way to do it? I looked at some past forum replies and it sounded like you need to do some JS coding to make it happen, but it would be awesome if there was just a block I could use for that.

There is no such slider filter available with Toolset and as you already know it will require little or extensive custom Javascript.

When you configure the years you want to filter (e.g. from 1750 - 1830) as custom taxonomy, you can add custom taxonomy filer as (select, multi-select, radio or checkboxes) so you can not add there from and To.

If you add the years as custom field where custom field will hold the years like (1750, 1755, 1830) then you can add the custom filed filter as dropdown from and to and you can set between clause when you add the custom field filter to find between those year values.

I hope this makes sense.

Thanks for the explanation. This needs to be as easy to use as possible, so I am willing to pay for someone to write the JS required to make this work as a from-to slider. I will be applying for funding to cover these expenses, could you let me know roughly how much this might cost? I posted it as a job, but no reply so far - would you be interested in doing it?
