[Resolved] Views Vs Blocks

This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:

The issue here was that the user was concerned with the difference with Views and Blocks and if views will be replaced by Blocks.

Solution:

Views and blocks are the same plugins. Which means whatever you can do in views you can do in Blocks. Blocks also has the views classic editor but this is disabled in the Editing Experience settings. So you can go to Toolset -> Settings and scroll to Editing Experience and select the 3rd option. This will give you access to both the Block and classic editor.

For the foreseeable future the views classic editor won't disappear and the Views plugin itself will still continue to receive updates because as mentioned blocks and views are the same plugins.

Features will continue to be added to the Block editor which makes it easier to use but if you're not ready to make that jump yet the Classic views editor will still be available.

Hi! As I remember you said that you will stop supporting Views in next 1-2 years. Is it still correct?

Blocks will be the replacement for Views but for me the Blocks UI is very difficult to use, especially when I want to set multiple filters/facet. Many levels of block inside block are too complicated to follow. I still prefer Views for this usage, it is easier to control.

Another thing I like from Views is I can reuse it or set dynamic query inside a loop by writing some more code, but with Blocks I can not do this.

So my final question is are you really stop supporting Views in the future and we all have to move to Block?

Thank you!

Hi Trang,

Thank you for getting in touch.

I understand your concern at the moment but rest assured that views and blocks are the same plugins.

So you need not to worry.

Features will continue to be added to the Block editor which makes it easier to use but if you're not ready to make that jump yet the Classic views editor will still be available.

I hope I was able to ease your concerns on this.

Thanks,
Shane
