I am trying to:
Update Views to the latest version (2.8.1)

Link to a page where the issue can be seen:
Any if the plugin is active

I expected to see:
Nothing new as the plugin update should cause no issues

Instead, I got:
Wordpress displays the "The site is experiencing technical difficulties." message.

I have tested the problem by deactivating every plugin and the issue clears and only reoccurs when Views is active, whether this is in conjunction with any other plugin or by itself, it makes no difference. If Views is active after the latest update then the website will crash with the technical difficulties message.

Please note that the debug information supplied below is from having everything installed up to date, but Views is inactive as this is the only way I can access the dashboard.

Just to confirm that it is definitely Views at fault, I received this error report email from WordPress:

Howdy!

Since WordPress 5.2 there is a built-in feature that detects when a plugin or theme causes a fatal error on your site, and notifies you with this automated email.

In this case, WordPress caught an error with one of your plugins, Toolset Views.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for getting in touch.

Are you able to let me know what is the exact error ? Also does the same occur when you install our views 2.8.1.1 version that has been made available today ?

Please let me know.
Thanks,
Shane

Hi Shane,

I have no way of finding the exact error as it locks it to the technical difficulties screen and that's with wp_debug turned on.

Also, it was the automatic update that has run and it is showing no further updates, but double checking the wp_views.php file, it is showing 2.8.1. So, given that no further updates are showing and that I can't access any debug information (I had to go into the cpanel and deactivate the plugin from there to get the site back), I'm not sure what else I can provide you with.

Hi Dave,

I suspect that it is the issue that was fixed in version 2.8.1.1 of views.
https://toolset.com/download/toolset-views/#changelog

Could you install this version as it was a release made today as some customers were getting Fatal Errors as well.

Thanks,
Shane

Sure thing, give me a few minutes and I'll download it manually and give it a try.
