I expected to see: normal update, same plugins I had before update
Instead, I got: plugin was deleted
I've had this issue with both types and views on this site.
I've tried the updates, and installs, via the toolset 'registered' section and via the regular wordpress plugins page
I've contacted godaddy support and they see no errors
Thanks Nigel for looking into this via chat support. You were able to duplicate the errors and found that the site is not able to communicate with your servers, also that installing produced an inactivity timeout... I looked via sftp and found that the views upload you tried produced a partial upload, with vendor and public subdirectories partially populated and no files in the main wp-views directory.
With regard to your suspicion that it's a cheap hosting plan: it's $19.99/mo. Ultimate Managed WordPress Hosting plan at GoDaddy, and their support claims no timeouts or memory errors... I plan to get my client to switch to a more conventional cpanel plan when I talk to him later today.
The installer developer said that if your site is experiencing issues communicating with the Toolset servers you should contact GoDaddy and have them whitelist the following URLs in case any of them are being blocked by them for some reason:
I'm surprised GoDaddy report no timeout issues, as that is what I'm seeing when uploading the Views plugin. It is fairly large (9Mb), but not so large that it shouldn't be possible to upload it (and which it is possible on other servers).
Do you have any other client sites using GoDaddy? It would be interesting to try uploading Views to another such site, sometimes it can be a particular server instance that has an issue rather than a host generally.
Thanks again, Nigel. We're going to move the site to another provider. But I'm keeping this open in case I get time to follow up on it with another site as you requested.
We moved the site to a Managed WordPress Plan on a2hosting and everything seems to work much better. Unfortunately this means we can't finish troubleshooting the issue to know what went wrong. But, fortunately, this means we don't have to, we think. I won't know until the next update whether it all works properly.
