Tell us what you are trying to do?

I want to create a custom archive view for posts (categories, tags) with Toolset Blocks. I created this with Toolset Blocks and assigned it to the taxonomies. Now I'd excpect to be able to edit that custom archive with Gutenberg in order to finetune it. But it is presented in the old editor interface. When I try to switch to Gutenberg, it warns me that my content would get reset by clicking the block editor button which I certainly want to avoid.

Also, there is unwanted empty space below that view on the frontend. You can see this here:
hidden link

I'd like to ask for help concerning two aspects:
- How can I edit my custom archive, which I began creating with Gutenberg, without losing my content / work by switching back to Gutenberg – the software warns me that I'm going to have my content reset by switching
- And if you take a look at the URL above and at my code below, do you have an idea why this empty space is rendered below my view?

Thank you,

kind regards

Bernhard

Hi Bernhard

Can you clarify how you created the custom archive? From your question it sounds like you are using a View block, which is different (similar, but different) to a custom archive.

To create a custom archive (including a taxonomy archive to list posts that have terms of some taxonomy assigned) you would go to Toolset > WordPress Archives to create it, and when you do it should open up in the Block editor, unless you made a change to the settings.

(At Toolset > Settings you can enable the Legacy interface alongside the Blocks interface, and then specify whether custom archives should open with the Block editor of the Legacy editor.)

Did you create your custom archive at Toolset > WordPress Archives? In the Block editor? And now that same archive is opening in the classic editor?

Do you have the Classic Editor plugin installed?

Hi Nigel,

Thank you for your reply. I built this WP archive via WP archives >> add new with the block editor. Seemingly some issue led to it being not being marked as block-editor-based after I stored it. Changing the preferences under Settings >> general does not improve the situation.

I do not have the classic editor plugin installed, and working with Gutenberg is possible without any problems in other situations.

Did you notice my second question?

"Also, there is unwanted empty space below that view on the frontend. You can see this here:
hidden link"

I included it in the same ticket because it's related to the same archive template. If you want me to clarify on this second aspect, please let me know.

Kind regards,

Bernhard

Hello, it looks like I might need to log in and see how this archive was constructed to understand exactly what's going on here. I can see that there are two "loops" by examining the HTML of the page. Two loops usually indicates a nested View block or View shortcode (perhaps ID #107224) is placed inside a WP Archive design. The WP Archive (perhaps ID #107222) is rendering empty lines and space below the nested View. Logging into the wp-admin area and examining the structure of this archive design will help me determine the best way forward here. Please provide a login to the wp-admin area in the private reply fields here. If you have a staging or development environment, I would prefer to work there instead of in the live site.
