Original Post: Is there a problem with using the Beta version of Types (this looks great!) and the current stable version of Views… or do I have to use the beta versions of both Types and Views? I have a many-to-many relationships configuration.
Response From the Toolset employee: This release of Views includes a lot of the planned support for post relationship, but not all. Among the missing feature (in this beta) are:
– Support for many-to-many filters in custom searches
– Proper GUI for setting up the display for Post Reference custom fields
– Convenient display for repeating field groups
My response: Is this saying the many-to-many Views related stuff will not work in the beta? Unfortunately, I am new to Toolset, and I don’t know what views vs. “custom searches” are.
Just to clarify... for new sites, using the Types and Views Beta with the rest of the Toolset suite only offers more and better features + functionality [specifically as related to many-to-many post configurations]... and nothing is lost... is that correct?
The old implementation of post relationships in the stable versions of the plugins is inferior, but that functionality is fully integrated across the plugins, including Views and CRED.
The new implementation has improved functionality and UI. Features are still being added to Types, and Views and CRED are playing catch-up.
The beta version of Views is adapted to work with the beta version of Types for post relationships, but is still missing some features, as you list above, such as post relationship filters in custom searches (a View that displays posts where the user on the front-end can apply custom field and taxonomy filters to narrow down the results).
Anything in Views that is not connected to post relationships continues to work as normal, it is only post relationships that are affected.
Likewise, no other Toolset plugin has a beta that works with the new Types post relationships (and repeating fields).
The announcement about the betas states that they are not tested with other Toolset plugins.
That does not mean that the other plugins will not work generally. So you can still use CRED to publish posts from the front-end, as long as your CRED form is not intended to work with post relationships. If you try to use a CRED form that sets a parent post, for example, that will definitely not work with the Types and Views betas, because the data is stored differently.
