Hello and thank you for contacting us.
You can create a tree-like structure with Types, using the parent-child relationship.
This is well documented and explained here: https://toolset.com/documentation/user-guides/creating-post-type-relationships/

I hope this answers your question, and helps you.

Thanks George

Trying to work out if I should use taxonomy or types for some of them!

Any chance I can send you a message privately to show you the existing site, so you can tell me your thoughts?

I have enabled the private field for your next reply.
If I may say, it is up to you to check what would you want to accomplish depending on your goals.
Sometimes taxonomies are better, sometimes you might want to create a custom post type.
You have to plan your site layout and create them according to your needs.

Thanks George.

I am definitely going to buy your product but I just wanted to make sure I can do everything I need to do on it!

The current site is this

PRIVATE

There are CASINOS. A Casino has CHIPS and MEMORABILIA.

A Casino sits in a REGION

The chips have attributes, around 8 of them which are separate tables (COLOR, MOLD TYPE, INLAY etc)

That's the general idea of the current site - just trying work out how feasible it is to move over!

Well it looks for me that you could use "Region" as taxonomy, Casino, Chips and Memorabilia as custom post types where the Casino is the parent and the other two are children post-types.
For the attributes like color, mold, inlay - you can use custom fields that you can assign to the specific custom post type.
You can review this documentation for reference: https://toolset.com/documentation/user-guides/create-a-custom-post-type/

Thank you!
So basically, it's all doable

#264448

I was thinking that the mold type, color, etc, could all be custom types as well
In case the owner needs to add a new colour or mold type etc..?

Would the colour/mold type etc appear as a drop down list in the chip post ?

You could use a simple text field instead.
And when adding a new chip you can write in the field with a text.
