Hi Toolset Team

I just noticed that the Toolset Views Plugin doesn't shows up in the available Plugin list also updating via WordPress updates stopped working.

Is this just another bug or did this happen on purpose?

Hello and thank you for contacting the Toolset support.

As you may know, we are rebranding Toolset Views into Toolset Blocks. Both plugins are basically identical. Installing one or the other is the same. Read more about it in our announcement article https://toolset.com/2019/11/toolset-views-becoming-toolset-blocks/

To lower the confusion, we have removed Toolset Views from the automatic download. But you can still update it manually. WordPress, now, support manual updates, by uploading the new version just as if you were installing the plugin manually for the first time. It asks then if you want to replace the current version with the uploaded one.
You can download the latest version from your dashboard, in the legacy tab https://toolset.com/account/downloads/#legacy-plugins

Or, you can replace Toolset Views with Toolset Blocks which can be updated automatically.

I hope this answers your question. Let me know if you have further questions.

Hi Jamal

Thanks for your reply - this is very sad to hear how Toolset handles this.

At least it should have been waited until Toolset Block supports the same features available in Views.
Very simple things are still missing in the latest version of Blocks - like for example to add a link to an entire container for example.

It reminds me a bit how WordPress forced Gutenberg and how happy millions of users where about it ....

Thank you for your feedback. But, it's a different story here 🙂 Toolset Blocks and Toolset Views are virtually the same plugins and the same code, they both offer the legacy and the block editor.

You can activate Toolset Blocks to get automatic updates and configure it to keep using the legacy editor with all the features it has. Go to Toolset->Settings->General(tab)->Editing Experience and choose your settings.

Hi Jamal

Thanks for your reply - but really ?

It looks like I must be missing something, which raises the following questions.

- For example the Views Column in the Toolset Dashboard is gone. How can I create a View which can be reused everywhere via a short code.

- Is there a way to create search and filter options which can be placed everywhere on the site and define a results page?

- How can I edit the HTML part of the Toolset View to add simple things to a Container Block like a link for example.

Is there a manual or guide for the above 3 questions?

But back to your response:

- If Toolset Views and Toolset Blocks are identical - Then why are there 2 versions ?

Back to my initial question - Why then Toolset Views Plugin doesn't shows up in the available Plugin list also updating via WordPress updates stopped working.

I hope you understand that think you didn't understood my question and may I ask for another supporter that can answer these questions ?

Hello Peter and my apologies for not being clear enough in my latest reply.

Once you activate the legacy editing experience in Toolset->Settings->General(tab)->Editing Experience you will get the menu "Views" under Toolset(you might need to refresh the page). And you will be able to create views and reuse them across the site using shortcodes.

This will let you use all the "Toolset Views" features within the "Toolset Blocks" plugin 🙂

I hope this removes the ambiguity.

Regarding the following questions:
- If Toolset Views and Toolset Blocks are identical - Then why are there 2 versions ?
- Why then Toolset Views Plugin doesn't shows up in the available Plugin list also updating via WordPress updates stopped working.
I believe it to be a business decision that we won't be discussing in the support forum. You may want to contact our marketing team here https://toolset.com/home/contact-us/

Let me know if you still need another supporter to take care of this ticket.

Hi Jamal

Thanks for the reply which made it more clear and was of great help.

Indeed the good old Views editor is back when enabling the settings you mentioned.

This works nicely on a new site, but what happens on a site where views was installed?

Can I simply delete the old Views plugin and install the Blocks plugin - without loosing the existing and working Views and Content Templates and breaking the site?

Thanks for your help 🙂

Thank you for your feedback.

Indeed, you can simply, remove the Toolset Views plugin, activate the Toolset Blocks plugin, and continue working without losing anything. The only action to take is to activate the legacy editor, which you can do also when still using the Toolset Views.
Because, in the end, It is the same plugin, the same code, distributed with two names.

The pros of using Toolset Blocks is automatic updates.

Hi Jamal

thanks for your reply and help.

I will try to swap out the Views Plugin with the Block Plugin on some sites and see how it goes.
