is it possible to add custom fields to user profiles?

we are building a site for professional editors and the editors will be listed as users.
the profiles have to include a whole lot of Select fields, radio buttons, and checkboxes. These will make up registration forms and profile completeness forms.
Once this has been completed we will need to create a user directory with filtering and search functions to show the result of members that comply with the selected filters.

We are quite familiar with tools overall. We need to know if this type if setup will be possible without much coding?
