I am trying to: search on a name or a city

Link to a page where the issue can be seen: isdc.org.il

I expected to see: a return of information

Instead, I got: no return of information

Hi Sharon

Because of the language it is not immediately clear to me what I'm looking at in your screenshots.

You have a custom search View that queries some post type.

You include a filter for City. This looks to be a select dropdown.

So I'm guessing your post type has a Types select custom field with cities for options, and your posts have a city field selected.

But when you choose a city on the search form the View updates and says no results. That's the issue?

Can you confirm if I have described the set up correctly?

Hi Nigel,

Ah, the language.... sorry in Hebrew. One is a dropdown for the cities, and the other is a free text where people can type the first or last name of a dentist.

When you choose a city - there are no returns. Nor when you put in a name.

Best,
Sharon

And you are sure the data is there? That the posts have a city assigned, for example?

Could you check one thing?

In the View, make sure that you can see the Query Filter section. If needs be go to the Screen Options tab at the very top of the page and make sure the Query Filter option is checked.

You should see Query Filters for each of the filters you inserted in the Filter Editor (where the value comes from a URL parameter). Is that right?

Hi Nigel,

I am not sure what you exactly mean. Enclosed is a screenshot of what was selected.

You should know that this is a recent issue. Yes, all of the dropdowns do have data associated with them.

Best,
Sharon

It may be easier if I could take a look myself.

Let me mark your next reply as private so that I can get log-in credentials from you—you may want to create a temporary admin user for me to use that you can later delete. Perhaps you could edit the profile for that temporary user to use English.

Which View should I be looking at, and where is it displayed?

I checked your site.

I looked at the first few dentists to check their data and they don't have a city selected, and if that is the case for your other dentist posts then the city search won't work as the underlying data is missing.

I suspect your name search wasn't working because the type field did not have an option for nothing selected, meaning that you couldn't search just by a name without also specifying the type.

So I updated your View to include a nothing-selected option for the type field, and now the name search works (see screenshot).

So the problem is with the city search, and that appears to be because there is no city selected in the dentist posts.
