[Resolved] Strange and unwanted child to parent post conversion

This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
When saving a parent post the post type of the child posts is changed so as to be the same as the parent.

Solution:
It arises from a conflict with the Post Type Switcher plugin. Disabling the plugin will prevent the problem.

Hello,

When I update a parent post, its child posts are mysteriously converted to parent post type.

Example :
Parent post type : State
Child post type : City
I create a parent post type, say Texas, and add child posts (say, Dallas Houston Austin...), when I update the Texas post, the Cities child posts disappear and then are listed in the State post list.

I tested different things related to post relationships last days, on several test sites, it's the first time I see this problem... Any idea ?

Thanks in advance
Sébastien

I think I found the source of the problem,
I deactivated the "Post Type Switcher" extension, and this child>parent post type conversion didn't happen again...

I will have to use this extension to switch some articles to CPT, so this conflict remains a bit problematic. Meanwhile, I'll manage to activate/deactivate the extension depending of the tasks I'll make...

The problem is not really solved, but there's a workaround (activation/deactivation of the extension), should I close the ticket ?

Hi Sebastien

Thanks for reporting the issue so clearly in the first place, and again for solving it yourself 🙂

We try to avoid compatibility issues such as this, so I am escalating this thread so that it can be investigated further.

I don't know at this stage whether it is something we can fix ourselves, or whether we will need the cooperation of the plugin author.

I'll keep you posted when there is any news.

Maybe there are other extensions similar to Post Type Switcher, I didn't search further as it is well noted.

For me, it's an essential tool, very practical when having to restructure a whole website with hundreds of messy articles, within well organized CPT.. And this is the case for the actual project I'm working on.
So if the conflict can be fixed in the future, it would be cool.
Anyway, there's a workaround, so I go forward..

Thanks Nigel!
