[Resolved] Split: Search Forms doesn't work as expected
This support ticket is created 6 years ago. There's a good chance that you are reading advice that it now obsolete.
This is the technical support forum for Toolset - a suite of plugins for developing WordPress sites without writing PHP.
Everyone can read this forum, but only Toolset clients can post in it. Toolset support works 6 days per week, 19 hours per day.
No supporters are available to work today on Toolset forum. Feel free to create tickets and we will handle it as soon as we are online. Thank you for your understanding.
Should I remove the wpv-filter-meta-html, and wpv-layout-meta-html that I pasted at the bottom in line 28 and replace the original line from the snippet?
I have no more time. There are entirely too many moving parts with no clear documentation examples on how to connect the dots. Toolset is like an encyclopedia of words for those skilled enough to form their own composition. In no way should your homepage market to noncoders.
UPDATE
I have removed both shortcodes from the homepage and linked to the /search-form/ page.
It will take some time to track down and remove the CSS attempted to style the shortcodes so the page HP displays the way the client originally approved.
Can please help me complete that setup?
Even on the search form page, toolset has the text titles under the 4 images completely out of theme style. Divi support stated that I can use CSS to attempt to style the text below the images but the loop will turn out of it and the text will distort after clicking the first pagination link, which is pretty much what I see happening.
I'm standing by waiting for a reply. I provided a screenshot of the snippet and adjusted the code as instructed. However, I still see the results before submitting the form.
The search form is no longer on the homepage and will only be accessible from the navigation link to hidden link where I would greatly appreciate your help with getting this completed.
I fixed up the custom code snippet so that the comments are not giving errors, and edited it for the correct View ID, and made a couple of minor required edits to the View itself (e.g. moving the pagination within the items-found section, so that it doesn't display when we are not showing any results).
But then I disabled it anyway so that I could verify the View is working normally, which it is not.
You were editing the search page which was locked, so I added a new page—Toolset—where I inserted the View as-is, directly into the post body without relying on Divi, and I inserted the whole View (search form and results) in one go.
But I found that none of the search filters have any effect. Regardless of whatever filters I select, I always get back 84 pages of results, which is meaningless.
I was going to take a copy of your site to install locally so that I can properly, but this is a multisite installation and there isn't a tool for me to export a copy of the site and I don't have admin rights to install one.
I'll persevere on your site, but I'll work on my own page to keep out of your way.
I was trying to isolate the problem by deactivating plugins, but having done so I am now locked out of the network site to experiment with collectively re-activating them.
As you might be able to tell from the screenshot, the debug mode of Views reveals that although filters are being applied, they are not being added as query arguments in the View, there should be meta_query and/or taxonomy_query entries in the debug info which are missing, and I was trying to understand why.
As you are able to manage the network perhaps you could try the same. Re-activate only Types and Views, visit the "Toolset" page where I inserted the View, and test if the filters work.
If they do, then you can try re-activating other plugins and use a process of elimination to try and determine which plugin is causing the problem.
I forgot to post an update to this ticket early this morning.
In another ticket one of your colleagues has been assisting me with the visual display of the site page. Since the beginning I guess I was supposed to have a View and a Template for the home page (I still don't fully understand this but..) and instead of building the home page out on the Template, I built it on the View. There was a Homepage New Content template that I created last month by trial and error but I had never used it. I just added everything to the Homepage View.
OK.. so the Home page View is just the View (not sure how this specificity factors yet...) and the home page is the Homepage New Content template.
I will say that several (not all) of the display distortions which were driving me crazy, has clear up since I tried switching to the Homepage New Content template which is encouraging to me.
Unless you feel I am making an error (don't have time to go to article school at the present time...) can you please help me with the technical issues based on the current set-up while the other agent helps with the display issues?
