[Resolved] Split: Elementor is not offering all Types fields from a field group

This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
When creating templates with Elementor, you can use Types fields as a source of dynamic content. Client expected to see their URL field available as a possible source, but it is missing.

Solution:
It appears that Elementor (who wrote this part of the integration) only show URL fields in places where a URL is expected, e.g. a button link.

Hi Nigel, thank you for your reply.
It did not help unfortunately, but I decided to create my templates using elementor.

I do have one strange issue though. I created a field group of 6 items and only 5 of them are available in the elementor drop down box. The url field is missing and no matter what I do it will not appear as a choice.

I will contact elementor too to see if they have put a limit on the choices - but thought you should know too.

I also want to have each field (address, name, phone etc) appear with an icon and label on the front end, how can I do that please?

Thanks very much - I am learning all the time but there is a learning curve with all the tutorials to absorb into my brain 😀

Hi Andy

Rather than setting up a test site with this scenario it might be easier if I see it for myself on your site, and if needs be I can take a copy for testing.

Let me mark your next reply as private so that I can get log-in credentials from you—you may want to create a temporary admin user for me to use that you can later delete. And be sure to have a current backup of your site, even though I don't intend to make any changes other than possibly to temporarily add a backup plugin to take a snapshot of the site.

Can you also confirm which template and field group we're talking about.

Hi Andy

Looking here at the issue of your URL field not appearing, see screenshot 1.

There I am trying to dynamically set a button text to come from the value of a Toolset custom field, and the different field groups are shown with their custom fields.

The URL fields are missing.

Now look at screenshot 2.

A button has a link, and there I am setting the button link with... one of the missing Toolset URL fields.

It looks like the way Elementor have implemented this, they know that a Types URL field is a URL, and so they are only offering it to you in circumstances where a URL is expected.

So I'm not sure whether there is a real issue here.

If you think that it should be possible to use a URL field anywhere that dynamic content can be inserted then you are best passing that feedback back to Elementor, as they built this part of the Elementor-Toolset integration.

I'll take a look at the other grids issue while I have your site open.
