[Resolved] Relevanssi and Toolset

This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The user wonders if the integration with Relevanssi allows searching in custom taxonomy terms.

Solution:
Yes, that's possible. Relevanssi allows to search within custom taxonomy terms. Toolset delegates the text search to Relevanssi, then applies the other Toolset filters to the results.

I read a lot of threads about using Relevanssi plugin with Toolset to improve the custom search. It seems that in some cases it's possible to index and search posts by terms and in some it's not.

Here's one thread where it's possible: https://toolset.com/forums/topic/custom-search-search-for-content-and-taxonomies-not-only-title/

So my question is simple: It it possible to let users search for posts by taxonomy terms in a view using Relevanssi (premium) plugin? Or is the search limited to search only for Post Title and Text?

I don't think Toolset supports this integration. The Relevanssi integration is meant to let you search within post-custom fields. And only 3 possible types (Single line, Multiple line, WYSIWYG). Check this article https://toolset.com/course-lesson/searching-texts-in-custom-fields-with-toolset-and-relevanssi/

It could be if Relevanssi supports it, but I could not find any documentation that confirms that. It could be because the current integration lets Relevanssi do the search first, then it passes its results to Toolset. Toolset, then, can filter the results further(if other filters are applied) and display them.

This being said, I can set up a test site and we can test it together. I'll provide you with credentials to install Relevanssi premium and prepare a test that we can check together. Let me know if you would like that.

Ok. The main reason for my question was if I should buy the premium or not. I may give it a try and buy it, but in that case I can try it on my own. Your college Nigel mentioned in the thread I sent you that it was possible to include taxonomies in the search even if the use case is to include custom fields in your documentation.

I checked this with Nigel and he confirms that the integration delegates the search to Relevanssi, and so what is included in the search index is determined by the Relevanssi settings. So—even in the free version—you can include taxonomies in the index.

Ok, Thank you I will try it and get back if I run in to trouble.

Thank you!
