[Resolved] Recent Versions of Toolset Views Causing Display Issues
This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: After updating Views some of our WordPress Archives for hierarchical taxonomies display recent post content instead of the archives we expect. We are using Elementor, and downgrading to earlier versions of Views will resolve the problem.
Solution: Update to the latest version of Views to receive the fix for this issue.

Hello,
Recently we noticed that certain sub-category archives on our website were pulling in recent post content instead of displaying the archive as it’s set up in Toolset. An example of what we're encountering can be seen here on one of our test sites, hidden link.
In digging into this deeper, it was discovered that certain search results archives pages trigger the same error, as seen here, hidden link.
After investigation, we believe that the reason involves some compatibility issues with recent updates to Toolset Views. We've therefore downgraded our production site to Toolset Views version 2.9.3, which has returned the displays we're expecting, as seen here, hidden link and here hidden link.
We need to determine why this is happening so that it can be resolved and we can return the plugin to the current version on our production site.
Hello, I'll be glad to take a closer look if needed. Can you try a few troubleshooting steps in the development site first?
- Please edit this WordPress Archive and make a minor text change, then resave the archive and resave your site permalinks
- Temporarily deactivate all plugins except Types and Views, and activate a default theme like Twenty Twenty
- Test the topic archive again. Is the correct WordPress Archive applied?
- If so, please reactivate your theme and other plugins one by one until the problem returns
Please let me know if these tests do not reveal the problem, and I will take a closer look. I will activate private reply fields so you can share login credentials to the development site.
Hi, I am able to replicate this problem now on my local environment. Part of the issue depends on using the Elementor builder to design one of the posts in the archive. If the first post in the archive list is designed with Elementor, the problem will be visible. In my local tests I was able to bypass the problem by downgrading to Views 2.9.4 as you mentioned, or by using the basic WordPress editor (block editor or classic editor) to design the first post in the archive. I did the same on your test site for the 12 Questions post, and now your WP Archive design is displayed here: hidden link
This may be a viable temporary workaround while we investigate further if you need some features of the latest Views versions and cannot downgrade.
I have asked my 2nd tier team to take a closer look at this, because I would expect to see the same behavior in both versions of Views. However, I may be overlooking something so I have asked for their feedback. I'll let you know what I find out.
Hello, our developers have informed me that this issue will be resolved in Views 3.1. I don't have a delivery date for the new release just yet, but I expect it will be relatively soon. I'll keep you posted here and let you know when it's ready for download or automatic update. Thanks for your patience while we work to resolve this.
Hi, Views 3.1.0 is being released today. Please update and let me know if the problem is not completely resolved. If you are unable to see the update, go to Plugins > Add new > Commercial Tab and click "Check for Updates" in the Toolset panel.
