[Resolved] Random slider View with pagination

This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem: I have a slider View that shows 4 results per page in random order. There is a warning message showing in the View editor screen that I should either remove pagination or remove random order.

Solution: I have requested an internal review of this error message. It seems like the message should clarify the potential problem here: results may appear multiple times on multiple pages when pagination and random order are used together in a View.

I have a slider showing random posts on the home page. After upgrading I have just noticed that there is now a message on the view below the ordering section...

"Pagination and random ordering do not work together and would produce unexpected results. Please disable pagination or random ordering."

But the pagination controls how many posts are displayed at a time and the transition effects. Turn off pagination and ALL posts show at once and not in a slide show.

This message shows on any site that I have a slider displaying random posts.

I think the message could be worded differently to clarify the potential problem here, which is that the same results may appear on multiple pages of a View that is displayed in random order. In your case, there are no pagination links so it's not really as confusing as it can be in other cases. Would that message clearly indicate the potential problem for you?

aahhh, thanks Christian. That makes sense!

Yes, the wording of the message is not correct then, as it states you can't have pagination with random!

Your wording of, "The same results may appear on multiple pages of a View that is displayed in random order", is much better.

A quick update to let you know the wording of this message will be modified in the next release of Views.
