Hello,

I have a problem with toolset blocks in the website editor of the Twenty Twenty Three theme. Toolet blocks can be inserted in the website editor, but they do not work. For example, formatting or customizations of containers are not displayed in the frontend. The formatting is displayed in the backend. When inserting the "Map" block, the Address field for the "Dynamic Source" is not provided. What is the problem? Do I need to change or adjust anything in the Toolset settings?

Thank you!

Kind regards

Hi there

The Twenty Twenty Three theme is an FSE-theme, which means it operates in a fundamentally different way than traditional PHP-based themes.

Currently Toolset doesn't support FSE themes. We are still evaluating what's possible with them, but it is likely a major undertaking, so I don't expect to see that change soon.

I'll mention it again in a call I have with the developers this morning, just to remind them that we have client interest in this.

In the meantime, though, I'm afraid with Toolset you will need to use a traditional theme.

OK, so why do the tool blocks work when editing pages and posts?

What would a traditional theme be, for example?

Do FSE themes have advantages over conventional themes, for example in terms of performance?

Thank you!

Kind regards

They work with posts and pages as they are handled the same way in traditional and block-based themes.

The main advantages of FSE themes are that they let you design the entirety of the site with the block editor, including the header and footer. With traditional themes you are limited to designing the post and page content, except for those themes that come with their own page builder to enable you to customise the other parts of the site than just the regular content.

If you want to mix Toolset and an FSE theme you can add Toolset content to pages and posts, including displaying Views on pages, but you can't create templates for post types and their archives that use Toolset, for now at least.
