Map Issue Again.png

Hi there,

We have had so many issues with Maps, I've lost count how many times I've asked for help.

On this portfolio, one of many: hidden link
The map works when you click on the link VIEW MAP lower down the page.

In Toolset Setting the API kep is inserted and not showing an error.
Yet in the backend on every portfolio Address Area is showing it could not connect.
This makes it trick, as it used to work, and we could drag the marker exactly where we wanted on a little preview screen.

Also when we inspect the site, it shows errors with the API and map.

Again, mystified why this isn't working when what we can see is working.

Thoughts would be great 🙂

We will either need Login details (possibly to a staging site) or a copy of the site.
I could not see any error on the front end itself but as you say there it works.

I suspect some simple issue with maybe another API being registered or even a temporary hiccup with Google Itself (that service is down more times than I would like).

However, to be sure and to resolve this for you, I'd need either of above (if it's confirmed that this issue happens as well without other plugins or theme, the better).
We usually prefer staging sites, because - you know how it is - on live sites you do not want to make any tests or dangerous changes.

If you could provide us with something like this I think we can spot and resolve the issue in no time.

I activated the private replies fo this purpose.

Thank you!

PS I am not assigning this ticket to me, because my shift is almost over, however Shane will be around soon to help you in case, and tomorrow I am back as well, where I could pick up if required where we left.
PS2 I know you shared login with us before, but those get removed when the tickets are resolved for safety reasons.

Hi Pete,

The issue is actually with the API key as i've tested it with one of our keys and it works fine.

What I recommend that you do is to try adding your domain restriction like this "hidden link"

Please try this and let me know if this helps.

Thanks,
Shane

Hey Shane,

Thanks for your thoughts.

Ok I've added 2 variations based on what you suggested, see attached.

No change yet however it can take up to 5 mins.

We have had so many issues with this, regenerated the keys so many times ect etc....maps just don;t see to work great for us, or Toolset, or everyone.

Unsure what to do if this wont cure the issue?

#1374807

Ok just regenerated the API key, updated Toolset > settings.

I have these in the Google API

fabulouslakedistrict.flywheelsites.com/*

*fabulouslakedistrict.flywheelsites.com/

hidden link

*hidden link

So unclear why it's note working in the backend for our portfolios like it used to?

Mystified.

Hi Pete,

I suspect that it has been changes to google and how their authentication works for the Maps API.

Unfortunately I cannot say what changed. However Could you try one final test.

Remove the domain restriction from the API key and then try again to see if the same issue remains.

Thanks,
Shane

Hi there Shane,

Ok we unrestricted the key all together (see attached)

It's made no difference in the portfolio's, there is still no return of the little map preview we used to have.

Are we sure it's nothing to do with Toolset? Just seems really odd all was ok.

When we run an inspection of the site, there are 3 errors all saying unable to connect to Google Maps.

Hi Pete,

Yes we can confirm that its not a toolset issue because as mentioned our API key that we used for testing working fine on your site.

For your API key when i checked it our plugin returns "REQUEST_DENIED - This API project is not authorized to use this API."

So its definitely an issue authenticating the API key.

Could you let me know which API's you have enabled for this key ?

Thanks,
Shane

API URLs.png

Hi there,

Just odd, we change nothing and it breaks anyway!

You ask> Could you let me know which API's you have enabled for this key ?
The actual API key? Can supply but message needs to be private.

URL's added back to key (see attached)

Pete

Hi Pete,

The private fields only give us a few categories, so we are not able to enable a blank private field.

I'll enable the one for credentials but you wont need to provide them again.

Thanks,
Shane

Hi Pete,

I meant what API's you have enabled.

For our Maps to work correctly you need to have both the Maps and Places API enabled for your key.

I have removed your API key from the forum.

Could you check that you have both the Maps and Places API enabled for you key.

Thanks,
Shane

Hi there,

These are the URL's listed for the key:

hidden link

*.fabulouslakedistrict.flywheelsites.com

fabulouslakedistrict.flywheelsites.com/*

*.hidden link

You said:
Maps and Places API enabled for your key.

Ok we have entered the key in Toolset Settings > Maps.

Never heard or been told out Places API. Where on earth is this?

Thank you. P
