Tell us what you are trying to do?
I have a chunk of text that is loaded from a custom field and I want to have that text be a link.

Is there any documentation that you are following?
No

Is there a similar example that we can see?
Not that I'm aware of.

What is the link to your site?
hidden link

The founder name, Jim Ford, is dynamic and I'd like to create a page about Jim Ford. Eventually I want to cross link the brands and the people all over the site.

Hello. Thank you for contacting the Toolset support.

I would like to know to what link you would like to link the custom field text "Jim Ford"?

#2205133

It would link to a page like this - hidden link
The actual page doesn't exist yet.

Basically - You should add a HTML block or "fields and text" block and you can link it using the anchor tag

<a href="your-target-link"> your types custom field that displays the name </a>

You can adjust "your-target-link" and "your types custom field that displays the name".

When I add the href into the template, every brand ends up with the same link.

This isn't what I'm trying to do. Each founder, should link to a unique page.

But to what unique page. I will have to understand first your structure and then I'll be able to guide you in the right direction.

Can you please share admin access details and tell me where you want to add the link and to what URL you want to point out the link.

*** Please make a FULL BACKUP of your database and website.***
I would also eventually need to request temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) to your site. Preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated if possible in order to be of better help and check if some configurations might need to be changed.

I have set the next reply to private which means only you and I have access to it.

As I understand this is a brand page: For example, on this page - hidden link

How can I know what "founder " is linked to what brand?

I see you did not created any post relationship using Toolset:
=> hidden link

I'm still confuse about how to identify what brand is linked to what founder? Do you want to create one to many post relationship?
- One brand can have many founders?

Here are the Docs that you should check and understand how you can setup post relationship and how it works:
