[Resolved] Issues when upgrading from 2.x to 3.x

This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem: When upgrading from 2.x to 3.x, I'm seeing several errors. If I update manually, I see missing content on my site.

Solution: Update manually and check to be sure Content Templates are applied appropriately in each post.

Recovery Mode — Plugins ‹ Bryant Lake Bowl — WordPress(2).png

WP 5.2 puts the site in recovery mode if there's an error with a plugin. Both Toolset Access 2.8.1.2 and Toolset Types 2.2.13 are triggering errors -- see screenshot.

The site had not been updated for a long time and these plugins are far out of date. We've purchased a license and have the most recent versions now, but when we do an upgrade there are issues. All pages are blank and there are errors in the Toolset interface re: missing templates and has_archive not being active. I tried setting has_archive to true and then got a note about needing an archive template.

The person who originally configured Toolset is not working on the site currently. My assumption is that there were already templates set up and working. Is there some sort of migration needed between 2.x and 3.x of these plugins?

I am providing the recovery mode admin URL - hidden link

Okay for now I have deactivated all the Toolset plugins and that has restored access to the site. I will go about installing the latest versions of Types, Views and Access and we can go from there.

Okay I have updated the plugins to their latest versions, and I believe I see the blank page issue you were describing. I checked the Menus page, and I could see that a Content Template was selected for this page. That template is blank. I changed the selection to "None", and now the Menus page is showing content. Can you confirm this is the correct content?

I took the opportunity to go through all the other Pages and remove any Content Templates, and now I see contents appearing mostly as expected...the My Calendar page is a bit stretched, but I'm not sure what it looked like before. Can you confirm everything is looking right now?

Hi, Christan, and thanks for your help.

This is Courtney -- I wrote to you earlier before on behalf of Erica. I am a WP developer, but am unfamiliar with this site -- had only facilitated hosting so far -- and hadn't used Toolset before. Another developer had set it up a few years ago.

Thanks for confirming your steps. You must be right, that that template select was the issue. I do see the site up and running, which is great. I am confirming with Erica about whether the correct content is now showing, as I am not had not taken a look at it for a quite a while. I or she will let you know here.

Thank you!
