Currently creating a search view allows one to filter the results by category.

However, on sites which use nested categories to precisely sort a large amount of content, this can be a pain: as the number of categories increases, using the filter becomes increasingly cumbersome. See this problem exemplified here: hidden link

It would be great if the filter could have a depth limit, e.g. could be set to only display top level categories, or only top categories and subcategories, but not display anything deeper than that. So for example, if a site has a category structure

1
1a
1b
1b'
1b''
1b'' *
1b'' **
1b'''
1c
2
2a
2a'
2a''
2b
2c
3
3a
......

currently the filter allows you to filter by all of the categories, producing a massive list of them on the search view page. It would be great if there was an option to set it up to only allow you to filter by:

1
2
3
...

or perhaps by:

1
1a
1b
1c
2
2a
2b
2c
3
3a
...

Thank you!

Such a request is filed and I upvoted it for you.

The feature is rejected by the Developers, which means it will not be added, but the more users ask for it the higher the request on the list and then the Developers will reconsider this.

Thank you for the thumbs up.
