Tell us what you are trying to do?
I am just trying to add some text and a hyperlink to a page. When I go to the editor (a post type called Projects) and add some text, the page automatically starts loading and then comes up with an "Edit Layout" page but which has no content and is blank. This was already set up years ago by my predecessor and had been working fine. I can see it says "This layout is used for these post types: Projects" and then the option to "use this layout for 21 projects". If I do that, everything breaks and the page on the site is just blank.
I think that this worked when first created, but since Layout seems to be no longer continued, it no longer works. I am only maintaining the site while I build another elsewhere to replace it, so I only need to make very minor changes, but I can't.
Based on what I see in your screenshot your Layout is empty. This means that nothing will be displayed on the frontend of your site.
Are you planning to continue using the Layouts plugin to develop the website ? It should be noted that the Layouts plugin is in legacy and my advise here is to move towards using the Toolset Blocks plugin.
Thanks for getting back to me. The problem is that the layout isn't blank, that content has been assigned to layout "Project Information Child Cell" (see screen1 img), but then, halfway through editing or when I click "update" it takes me to the "Edit Layout" screen above which is blank...
If I go to Toolset -> Layouts I can see "Project Information Child Cell" listed, with the content it's used on (screen2). I am trying to edit "Conect4Children". If I click on that Layout, or click "edit" or "change how this layout is used", then it just shows the same page of Layouts listed but with a lot removed! (screen3).
This behaviour is very strange, but the real problem is that I didn't set this up. I don't really want to spend time messing about changing layouts and stuff when I'm trying to rebuild the site elsewhere. We just want to keep this site running in the meantime, but we do need to make minor changes to content every now and then. Is there an easier way to just change the content without messing around with Toolset Layouts?
Thank you for the additional information. This could be because the original creator of this site didn't include the post body section in the layout itself or the content area is being designed with Layouts.
Currently I would recommend moving away from Using layouts and explore the use of Toolset Blocks, however this doesn't appear to be an option for you now.
What I can do for you is to have a look at the issue for you if you provide me with the credentials for the site as well as a link to the page with the issue.
