Unter Toolset > Export/Import > Associations I see some associations to be imported. However, these associations are related to posts which no longer exist, so the import fails.

My questions is: How can I abort this import and get rid of these associations (which I no longer need)?

Hi Martin,

Thank you for getting in touch.

There are 2 ways you can do this. The first way is that you can open the xl/csv file and delete the associations that you do not need.

The second way is that you can export only the associations you need using the Module Manager plugin.
https://toolset.com/download/toolset-module-manager/

Once you've installed the module manager plugin go to Toolset -> Modules and from there you can select which relationship structure you want to export.

Thanks,
Shane

Hi Shane

Maybe I was not specific enough: The associations which I want to get rid of exist on my NEW site (where I have IMPORTED the data into) – not on my OLD site (where I had EXPORTED the data from).

So the export/import process took already place, but obviously I made a mistake along the way, and now I simply want to clear what I see in the «Associations» tab.

Thank you.

Martin

Hi Martin,

In this case the associations should now be appearing under the Relationship menu option at Toolset -> Relationships. Any relationship that you no longer need can be deleted from this section.

Thanks,
Shane

Hi Shane

I don't want to delete the RELATIONSHIP, I only need to delete the 8 ASSOCIATIONS which are «ready to be imported».

Referring to my screenshot: I want to keep the associations in the blue section, but I need to delete the associations in the green section (because they are no longer valid, they cannot be imported even if you try – see the error message attached).

(BTW: Under Toolset > Relationships you can see only the relationship definition, but no associations.)

Hi Martin,

I'm assuming here that this is during the process of importing the relationships from an XL/CSV file correct? This means that you've exported them from a different site.

Would you mind allowing me to have admin access to the site as well as the file that you're trying to import ?

Thanks,
Shane

Hi Shane

That's how these associations have been created, yes.

But I don't want to import this data anymore. I simply want to delete the «8 Associations ready to be imported». How can I do that?

Hi Martin,

There isn't a way to delete the items from this screen.

However to give the best way to delete this I will need to see the exact way to replicate. Also I mentioned that you should be able to open the XL/CSV file and delete the associations from there before you import the file.

Currently i'm not sure what part of the process you're at. Is it before the import or is it after you've imported the items.

Thanks,
Shane

Hi Shane

I tried different methods to migrate my Custom Post Types (structure and data) from my old site to my new site. Migrating the structure was no problem, but I struggled with the data.

At one point in the process, I tried a CSV-Import with WP All Import, but the result was not what I expected. So I deleted the data from my new site and started all over with the standard WordPress Export/Import process, exporting the Custom Post Types one by one. When you do this, the associations are not exported/imported, but since I had only a two-figure number of records, I didn't bother and have recreated the associations in the meantime manually.

So everything is fine now – except these associations which you see on my screenshot which belong to records which no longer exist, which I can neither import nor delete.

Hi Martin,

Happy that everything is fine now.

However it should be possible for you to open the export file and make changes to it and remove the data that you don't want to import.

Secondly perhaps you can try using the module manager plugin in the future as this gives a much better control over what exactly you want to export from your previous site rather than exporting all the associations.

If there are no further questions then you can go ahead and close here.

Thanks,
Shane

Hi Shane

I wrote: Everything is fine – EXCEPT these associations. Nothing has changed since I opened this ticket. I still need to know how to delete these associations which I can neither import nor abort.

Modifying the export file doesn't make sense since the import already took place.

Using the Module Manager makes even less sense since it handles ony data structures – not the data itself.

Hi Martin,

Ok at this point i'm confused.

You're saying the associations that you want to delete have already been imported correct? If so then there are 2 options that I can think of. Either delete the associations before you've done the import which is not an option now since the file has been imported.

Secondly you will need to go to the posts with the relationship and delete the information from there.

There isn't any other way to do it since the imported data would've already been established in the database with the information. Unless these posts are not showing up at all on your website.

Shane

Hi Shane

There is no way to delete the information in question by looking at the posts, since this information does not exist there. It only exists under Toolset > Export/Import > Associations (see my first screenshot).

These associations have the status «Associations READY to be imported», so they are not fully imported yet. But I cannot import them, the process stops with an error message (see the attached screenshot). And I cannot delete these broken associations either, as I would like to do (and why I opened this ticket in the first place). I'm stuck.

Hi Martin,

Would you mind allowing me to have admin access to the site as well as the export file that you would've originally used to import your posts using the WP All import plugin ?

Perhaps I can see a way how remove these association as currently i'm not seeing a direct way in the Toolset Settings.

Thanks,
Shane

#2198949

Hi Shane,

I have solved the issue on my own. It's a too long and too complicated story to tell here, but it obviously had something to do with our multilingual website (based on WPML). Somehow the location (= association parent) which gave us the error in the first place, had the wrong language flag, resulting in cascade of other problems.

Thanks for your support.

Martin
