Hello!
I have inherited a client website that uses the Toolset tool since 2017. We need to update our content that was set up by the Toolset functions.

I have a staging site, which I have the toolset installed - ready to reconfigure and update content.

Please note, I am a newbie to this software. I have attempted to export the data from the live site, nothing happens, not even an error. After looking through the forums, discovering I should activate the Toolset Debug Information. Nothing happens when I click the link. I have tried these steps a few times. No success.
Ultimately, we would like to convert all existing Toolset content to the latest version, also updating some of the templates.
Would it be safe to update the plugins on my live site? (see screenshot). Will this break anything?
I assume copying over the WP folders/site content and the database file to the staging site may cause some more issues.
Please advise. What would be the logical next steps?
I am happy to share my login credentials if that would be helpful.
Thanks
Stephanie
Hello, usually updating the plugins will not break a site, but to be extra careful it's always best to update Toolset in a staging environment first, then test everything out before updating the live site. It sounds like you have a staging environment set up, and you would like advice about how best to migrate the live site to a staging environment for testing. Toolset does not really provide this functionality, so I suggest using a tool like the Duplicator plugin or the All-in-One WP Migration plugin. Install one of those plugins on the live site, and use it to make a backup of the live site. These plugins will handle copying the theme, plugins, and database contents from the live site, then provide a simple migration package for installing on the staging site. They will also automatically update URLs and database contents so everything is migrated appropriately.
I suggest using one of these tools to migrate the live site to a staging environment first, then running the automatic Toolset plugin update tool in staging. Once the update is complete, test and compare the staging site and the live site to be sure everything looks correct and there are no errors. Once you have confirmed the update caused no problems, you can update the plugins on the live site.
Let me know if you have questions about that.
Working through the suggestions. I appreciate it. My issue is resolved for now. Thank you!
