Hi Charles,

I took a look at this for you.

I see that you've added the search view inside your homepage view.

What i recommend that you do is to remove the view from the homepage view here
hidden link

And add it to the homepage template here
hidden link

It could be that being inside the view is interfering with the pagination.

Thanks,
Shane

Hi Shane,

I was not aware that I was working with the template "Homepage New Content template".

I think thee might be a mistake, this page template was created back in October but I never mentioned in a support ticket before. Could it be that I made some random pages while attempting to learn Toolset? There are several starter pages, views, taxonomies, Views, and templates left aside from my time trying to figure things out. If I recall I created that homepage template until I was instructed to create the Homepage View instead

As far as I am was aware until this very moment, I had NO IDEA this template was in play. As far as I knew there were only the Home page View and the template for the product pages.

I have NO IDEA what to do with the template that you seem to think I am using. I had hoped that we would resolve this by no later than the end of this week but instead, I am now back to the very beginning of CONFUSED!

Could it be you saw this template while in my dashboard and you thought I was using it and designed your direction accordingly?

What the heck is going on here? There are at least four other support agents and dozens of support tickets seeking instructions oo the Homepage View and the Product page template specifically in the discussion threads.

No one has ever mentioned the other Homepage template. It was always the View???

Shane,

I am at a complete standstill since you brought up hidden link which I had no idea was an active working part of this project. I had considered it to be only a random element I had created while trying to figure things out and didn't delete it.

If this template is important and necessary can you please give me a quick overview of the role it plays in this project?

Hi Charles,

This template was created for the homepage.

Now this is fine and nothing is wrong with this. The issue comes in where you are adding your search to the view that is being loaded by this template.

Seeing that it has been already created you can continue to use it without any issues and build out your items as you would normally do in divi builder.

Now the advantage that this serves is that multiple pages can use this template at the same time. It Really just serves as a way to create 1 template and make that template available across multiple pages if you so desire.

Please let me know if this clears things up for you.

Thanks,
Shane

What you described is seems logical but I need to know the best way to proceed.

1. Is using the Homepage view instead of the Homepage New Template the right way to go?
I am wondering it is the cause of the display distortions we have been having. Could the view be displaying this way because it is not supposed to be used in this manner?

2. I believe that you are fully aware of my objective with this site. Because the client is an artist, the site needs to look and perform visually well. All this considered and the fact that time is against me now, can you please give me your best recommendation. Use the template or the view?

Shane,

I do not understand the difference between the home page template and the home page view now.

Regardless, I have no more time for this nightmare.

I am removing both, the search form and the results shortcodes from the home page view.

The only thing I want to focus on now is getting the hidden link to display correctly and the form to work. If I can't do that, I'm going to remove Toolset from the site, consider it an utter failure.

I will link to the /search-form/ page from the "Search Other Work" button link on the homepage view.

Had worked hard to make the homepage look just the way the client wanted with the exact image positioning that he needs. Now with Toolset the homepage is am absolute, disaster.

If you feel this is an incorrect action, please state so.

Thank you.

UPDATE

I have removed both shortcodes from the homepage and linked to the /search-form/ page.

It will take some time to track down and remove the CSS attempted to style the shortcodes so the page HP displays the way the client originally approved.

Can please help me complete that setup?

Even on the search form page, toolset has the text titles under the 4 images completely out of theme style. Divi support stated that I can use CSS to attempt to style the text below the images but the loop will turn out of it and the text will distort after clicking the first pagination link, which is pretty much what I see happening.

Hi Charles,

Let me see how best I can explain this for you.

There is nothing wrong with using The homepage template, you can continue to use it as is. It only really serves if you want another page to have the same design, you can assign that already built template to that page as well.

Lets say you want another page to have the same design as the homepage, you can assign the template to that page as well.

Now, what you need to do is instead of adding your search to the Homepage view, you add it to the template. Remember the homepage view is displaying the image on your homepage. This was what I assisted you with in our first ticket.

We now have a second view, which is the search view. This should Not be added to the homepage view but rather to the homepage template itself.

If you're confused you can just stop using the homepage template and delete it and add the view and search directly to the homepage here
hidden link

Exactly as how it is done in your search page here
hidden link

Where you see the content template is set to NONE.

What we need to do here is focus on ONE issue, when that ONE issue is resolved, we close the ticket and open a new one for the new issues.

Bombarding one ticket with multiple issues will cause both of us to become confused. I recommend that we stick to a single issue in this ticket.

Thanks,
Shane

I have waited the entire day for eight you or Nigel to follow up with me but the only feedback I have received was your bringing up and old template hidden link and referred to me using it when I have not touched that template since creating the home page view based on a different Divi template.

I'm would look for a replacement search system for this site if the Product pages were not integrated with your fields.

If this is the pace......... I'm obviously screwed.

Shane - I read your last post with repetition and although I remain confused, I'm willing to see where this goes.

I do not like have the option between the view and the template as the homepage because I don't feel I have enough knowledge about your platform to make a well informed decision. However, I've seen a demonstration of the configuration based on the view and the display is extremely problematic, I'm curious to know if the template option will be less so.

I saved a copy the current view template module configuration and I opened it in and saved the Homepage New Content template. If this is what you are describing all along, I will need to know how to link the featured image because it is not currently showing. Although a few display issues have cleared up several problems still remain to be resolved.

I do not like the form rides up and down as different shaped images appear in the table row below it. Can the results be moved from below the form and placed some place where it can be accessed smoothly but not move other page elements as the pagination transitions? Do you want to start a ticket for that?

Also, the three text fields below each of the 4 column row images, changes font size and line spacing without restraint during pagination clicks. Please let this be a second ticket.

The search form is not searching anything after I make field option selections and click submit. Let this me the third ticket.

Divi support has attempted to assist with some of the CSS but because the page is in a loop they find it hard to id module elements for custom CSS.

The homepage (as far as I know, and I'm not exactly sure or why but...) is now the Homepage New Content template

Thank you.

Hi Charles,

Would you want me to remove the view template so that you can proceed with just editing your homepage from here ?

Perhaps doing this will allow you to understand the workflow better.

Thanks,
Shane

Shane,

I'm trying to hanging on. I am still unclear as to why I would prefer one way or choose one path over the other and at this point I am unable to see those choices clearly.

You made a strong case for using the Homepage New Content template, and since I tried following your that suggestion the display has improved a little with the template.

Now you ask me if I want you to remove the view template and I am not sure how that will factor. Yes I need to learn in order to be independent but I do not have to go to class now.

I NEED the current Homepage New Content template (which I assume is now the Homepage New Content template) to display the featured image. The client has already emailed twice today asking why there is not an image on the staging homepage.

Please, no more jumping around. Please tell me how to link the featured image to the new homepage and from there I would appreciate it you will help me finish it. Then I can go back over the project and study what was done.

Featured image on the Homepage New Content template PLEASE!

Shane,

Nigel is working inside the admin on a technical issue and I wanted to let you know. He is tracking a bug that might be linked to plugins.

Hi Charles,

Lets get the homepage working as you say.

I remember in a ticket we created this view here.
hidden link

To get the homepage working as it did please remove the first 2 sections in the template here.
hidden link

And add the view in its place. This should restore your homepage.

Thanks,
Shane
