The website is behind a maintenance page here so I will need to send you logins: hidden link

I have a custom taxonomy called 'listings'. I have created the listings archive page perfectly with a categories dropdown: hidden link

I also need to have individual sub category pages:
- Stay - hidden link
- Shop - hidden link
- Eat & Drink - hidden link
- See & Do - hidden link
- Services - hidden link
- Community - hidden link

I am using the same set up as the listings archive for these pages but under category - I am only getting the parent taxonomy and not the child taxonomies (eg: On Stay - I would expect to see Hotel, B&B & Self Catering)

How do I accomplish this?

Kind Regards,
Orla

HI Orla,

You're saying that you're only getting the parent taxonomies in the archive view ?

Could you send me the login for the site to have a look ?

Thanks,
Shane

Hi Shane,

This is the full listing archive page: hidden link
This is the sub-listing archive page where the issue is - I would like the dropdown to show the sub-categories of the Stay Taxonomy (hotel, b&b, self catering): hidden link

Thank you for your help,

Kind Regards,
Orla

Hi Orla,

Thank you for the credentials. I'm not able to understand the issue fully.

So the problem here is that remember you are filtering down to an individual category. This is why your filter is locked into the one term.

Remember even though we have child taxonomies they still operate as if they are individual taxonomies not related.

The best fix here would either be a custom one or to open a feature request so that you can add a filter just for the child categories only.

Thanks,
Shane

Hi Shane,

I just want the archives to filter by the child categories - the same as how they do on the main archive page.

I am not sure I understand your advice - do you mean that this functionality would need to be custom built? It seems such an obvious, simple thing? Is there anyway to work around it to display a dropdown of the child categories?

Kind Regards,
Orla

Hi Orla,

I think We might be able to work around this if we use a regular view filter and set it to target this page.

Would I be allowed to test this out to let you know if it works ? In theory it might since the view filter may only list out the items that can be filtered for which would include the taxonomy terms.

Please let me know if I can test this out.

Thanks,
Shane

Hi Shane,

Sorry for the delay - I was in hospital yesterday so didn't get back to the computer - yes please do test it out - the site is still in development mode so it is a perfect time for testing - do you want to send me on the private uploader for the login details?

I've recorded a short video to walk through the issue and how I would like it to work if possible incase I didn't explain it clearly enough previously - hidden link

Thank you so much for helping with this. The project is very close to completion and I am very proud of it - I would love for it to work perfectly.

Kind Regards,
Orla

Hi Orla,

Sorry for the delay in response.

However it doesn't seems like we will be able to get this one to work for you, because its actually not possible because on the Custom archive there is a message that says
" This filter will not be applied to Taxonomy Archives matching the filtered taxonomies: listing-feature"

So it doesn't seem that we can get this one to work for you.

Thanks,
Shane
