File and Text fields are "too complex" to display

This support ticket is created 3 years, 3 months ago. There's a good chance that you are reading advice that it now obsolete.

This is the technical support forum for Toolset - a suite of plugins for developing WordPress sites without writing PHP.

Everyone can read this forum, but only Toolset clients can post in it. Toolset support works 6 days per week, 19 hours per day.

I am trying to: add a "Document" post type with a file upload and multi-line text field

Link to a page where the issue can be seen: on a New Post page in the backend

I expected to see: all 4 custom fields for the post type which also include a date field and a document type field. None of them are displaying.

Instead, I got: Other, non-relevant fields pertaining to other plugins.

Hi Richard,

Thank you for getting in touch.

Can you temporarily disable all your non-toolset plugins and check again to see if the issue still remains ?

Secondly I noticed that you are using outdated versions of our Toolset plugins. Can you perform an update on these plugins as well.

Hi Shane,

I disabled all plugins, updated Toolset plugins and WP to 5.8.1 and the weirdest thing happens. When I go to create the post type, the field group displays for a split second and then disappears. I created this video to illustrate:

Hi Richard,

Would you mind allowing me to grab a copy of the site where I can perform some tests here locally ?

This will allow me to make changes to the site without having to worry about affecting the live environment.

Also can you say when did you start noticing this issue ?

Sure. Just tell me what you need, if anything, from me. I noticed it after the last plug-in update I did (every plug-in.) I uploaded some files in mid August using this post type without any issues. When I tried in mid September, the issue was there.

Hi Richard,

I've found the issue. It appears to be a case where you have 2 field groups assigned to the document post type but both field groups have the exact same fields.

Ofcourse with the Exception of the Document Title and Document Type fields. When I disabled one of the field groups the fields show up without any issues.

So I would suggest getting rid of the duplicate and combine the fields into one field group.
