On this site we have a user directory for a community. I have created a view that lists and filers users, but I would like to be able to click through to view an individual profile. However, Layouts doesn't see to have a way of creating a default layout to view a user's profile (using a set of default and additional fields). Is there a way to accomplish this?

I need to view the base user profile rather than a separate post type because those profiles are being used for forum membership and other functions.

Or alternatively is there a way to create a post type 'user profile' and link that to a user in a 1:1 relationship so that one could 'call' the user profile post, and enter all the required details there? This would also allow proper filtering in a view.
