I added custom fields to several custom post types, for example Events.

The custom fields will show in Views for existing Event post types, however I cannot add to a new Event or edit on an existing event. For example: start date and end date

In Post Field Control view, I see that these fields are deactivated. I didn't do this (at least not intentionally). How can I reactivate them?

I just checked on my own site to see how to reproduce this issue, and it happens when you edit a Custom Field Group, and remove the field from the group.

The field definition still exists, but it is not in use in any field group, that's when it shows pink in the post field control screen.

You need to hover over the fields and click the Change Assignment link, then you can add the field back to some Custom Field Group and start using it again.
