I am trying to:
When I click on the cred edit link I want it to replace the content on the current page with the cred edit form.

I visited this URL:

When I click on a cred edit link from within an archive page it shows the cred edit form within the template page for that cpt

I expected to see:
just the cred edit form withe relevant details for the post type

Instead, I got:
When I click on a cred edit link from within an archive page it shows the cred edit form within the template page for that cpt

CRED Edit Links have changed a bit lately.
https://toolset.com/documentation/user-guides/displaying-cred-editing-forms/

Now, I understand you have a WordPress Archive created with Views and have inserted the CRED Edit link in there?
You should create a Content Template according to the above DOC and then click the Edit Link will load that template only.
In that template, you can, of course, add whatever Post Information you want, along with the CRED Form itself.

Please let me know if this helps to solve the issue.
