Tell us what you are trying to do?
I have custom archive pages for my custom post type categories. They currently display a view that outputs all the child posts. Im having trouble figuring out how to include some drop down filters so users can search by the various categories these posts are in. The view either allowed me to filter so only the correct child posts display or enable filters but then all child posts displayed, not just ones under that archive. Maybe you can show it on a test site and I can copy it. Although one thing I have about toolset is when you copy and paste things it copies the ID so you literally have to recreate everything instead of being able to copy views and use other places. Its frustrating to say the least.
Sorry, but it's not clear what you are aiming for. Perhaps you could give concrete examples, detailing the post types (parent and child), what is being filtered (taxonomies, fields), and what the things being filtered are assigned to (the parent post type, the child post type?).
You can only filter things by properties of those things, not properties of something else. So you can filter parent posts by properties of parent posts, not by properties of child posts, for example.
If you have an archive that is displaying parent posts, then you can filter the archive output by properties of the parent posts.
When you say you added a View to display child posts, does that mean a nested View in the loop output of the archive, so that each parent post in the results displays its child posts? It sounds like something else, but I'm not sure I understand what that would be.
If you can give some concrete examples we might be able to give you a tailored solution.
