I am trying to: work on a page on our site. After trying to save the page I get a can not update page and get locked out of my site. Somehow the code triggers a router conflict. This has happened on a Verizon router and a Comcast router so we know this isn't an isolated issue with one network. I can't access the my site to give you debug info so I don't know if it is a plug in conflict or something else.
Link to a page where the issue can be seen: theihs.org-cannot access site to give you more info
I expected to see: the site and wp admin
Instead, I got: time out error.
Hello, if you provide FTP and wp-admin login credentials in the private reply fields, I will try to regain access to wp-admin by temporarily disabling Toolset plugins. Were you trying to edit a specific post/page, or does the problem occur when editing all posts?
Hi Christian, I have been able to access the site via cellular hotspot. I put the site into troubleshooting mode and started by turning off all the plugins but Toolset. Turning them one one by one I found a possible conflict with a plugin called Simply History. The Simple History plugin does exactly that, logs history of the site, page changes, hack attempts (these reason we started using it), logins, etc. There might also be a conflict with our theme. It was a custom theme built five or six years ago and is somewhat cludgy, lots of bubble gum and bailing wire holding it together. When I turned the theme back on I tried to make some typography changes to a view/loop I was working on and the site locked me out again. Fortunately on a cellular network IPs get refreshed quickly so I was able to get back in. I had to deal with FIOS tech support several times on this issue, they wouldn't tell the commands they used to clear the issue but they did let me know it was to release bad IPs. I am not sure what kind of conflict would cause that sort of issue but I thought I should report it to you since it only happens when we use Toolset. We are sitting on a WP-Engine server. The lock out is usually preceded by a "Cannot update error"
I haven't seen a similar issue reported before but I can try to investigate further if you would like to provide login credentials in the private reply fields here. Perhaps there is some server-side error prompting this lockout. I can create a clone of your site using the All-in-One WP Migration plugin and install the clone locally, then run some additional tests to see if I can replicate the problem locally.
Hi Christian,
As much as I appreciate the offer I can't give access to the site at this time. There are a ton of things just plain wrong with the site and it was only a matter of time before we found a conflict of this magnitude. We are in the early process of rebuilding the site and if this issue persists after the rebuild I will reach back out. Even though this experience hasn't been the best I still believe in the power of dynamic sites. I am sure once we move off the current theme things will smooth out. We haven't settled on a theme yet, if there is a theme or system that works well with Toolset please advise and then feel free to close this ticket.
Thanks,
Sean
Sure, we recommend one of these themes: Ocean WP, Astra, GeneratePress, Woodmart.
