[Resolved] sort custom field order with post relationship box

This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
sort custom field order with post relationship box

Solution:
There is no such feature to order the custom fields on post relationship box or Add related post popup on admin section.

However, I can see you have a point and you can file a new feature request for allowing users to order the custom fields on that mini form.

Tell us what you are trying to do?

Have a different display when creating attached/related custom post types

Hey there.

We have a custom post type called Tax Sales, which has a related post type of Tax Sale Properties. It's a 1 - many relationship, 1 tax sale can have many related properties.

Essentially the admin will create a tax sale, and then create properties that will be associated with that tax sale. I've attached some screenshots.

Our problem is with the 'mini-form' that pops up when they click the "Add New Property" button. It's not very friendly and all the fields are out of order. Is it possible to have the "Add New" button just open up the regular form - similar to the edit button, or as if you went to the Properties tab and created a new property from there?

What is the link to your site?

Thank you

Hello. Thank you for contacting the Toolset support.

Actually, that is how you can create related post from backed and that is expected.

If you want to create related post, even you can create a new post from Property post type and then use the post-relationship box to connect it to your related post that is another way.

Is there any way to rearrange the fields on this mini form?

No , there is no way to order the fields within the post-relationship box BUT you can re-order the custom fields by editing the custom field group and drag-drop the fields as per your required order and save custom field group and later visit post-relationship box - it will display the custom fields as per the order you set within custom field group.

Thanks

Yeah, we have the field organized nicely on the regular page. The mini box is kind of useless to us as it is now, is there any way to disable it?

Do you mean you want to hide the "Add new Property" button from the post relationship box?

#2235337

No, I guess that won't really work, we want the client to be able to create the properties from the tax sales screen. Maybe I'll have them just add the title and save, then use the the edit buttons.

Thats unfortunate, the mini form - at least in this case - is really unfriendly/unusable.

Thank you.

Ok. I'm afraid that there is nothing much I can do here. what you experience us how its expected to work and there is no way to do any customization.

However, I can see you have a point and you can file a new feature request for allowing users to order the custom fields on that mini form.
