Hello,

I accidentally deleted a custom search filter from an existing custom search for a view and now I cannot figure out how to add it back - or otherwise edit an existing custom search filter.

This page: hidden link

Currently has two search filters. I originally had four and accidentally deleted two (I thought I was working on a different view). I want to add the other two back, but I cannot figure out how to add filters to an existing custom search. I also can no longer edit the view "the old way" as the view "Can only be edited in the block editor from within the post that includes it" - if though I have the Toolset Views plugin activated.

Please point me in the right direction for adding custom search filters to an existing view with search.

Thanks.

Hi there

If you created the View using the block editor (you added a View block to a page) then the View can only be edited where you created it, e.g. by editing the page where you inserted the View block.

Once you do that it should be straightforward to add search filters to the existing search block, even if you are adding back ones that you deleted previously.

Thank you.

I was trying to add the new search field as a block (which does not exist in the block inserter) rather than the gray add new search field button. I'm so used to the block inserter that I was blind to the Views buttons.

I also discovered that inserting an existing view first gives you and "edit as copy" overlay choice. That's where I got into trouble in the first place as I was editing an existing view rather than a copy. It looks like that is only an option right after inserting the existing view and not later after doing some other editing.

Another question, which we can create a new thread is needed:

I have a category "art type" which is hierarchal and I have one level that has subcategories. I was hoping I could set up the view to filter the parent art type (in this case, textiles) and then only custom search options for the subs of textiles (dress, bag, etc.). Seems I can't do that.

So I created a simple art category field that I can filter, but I still see all the art types.

Is there a way to only show a custom search for a taxonomy that only includes choices that exist after the filter?

Specifically:
All art types: hidden link
Textiles: hidden link
In the textiles search, I would like the "Type" drop-down search fields (which is the art type taxonomy) to only show textiles art types.

This is a known issue to us and here is the errata page:

Can you pleases confirm you are having the same scenario as described with the above errata page.

Regarding your original issue:
- Do you have issue editing the existing view?

I just needed to know there was a "Show only filter options that would produce results" option. It appears to be working for me. Thanks.
