[Resolved] Access plugin working poorly since last update

This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem: When the Give plugin is active, I am unable to use the Access plugin effectively.

Solution: Extract the patched Helper.php file into the directory wp-content/plugins/types-access/includes/. The next version of Access will include a permanent fix for this problem.

Hi,

Since the last Access update, things are not working properly. First, most CPTs and other types of items are inaccessible via the Access Control page (see attached screenshot). Second, I can't access any media items as a Developer level user (that's above administrator). I get the #no_privilege link and I am unable to go into the image edit pages from the media library.

Note: This may be connected to another issue I just brought up (see thread "Tag Artists feature stopped working"), maybe Access is restricting aspects of the feature I mentioned there. I don't know though, you're the expert.

IMPORTANT: The access I'm giving you is to the live site, so you can take a deeper look - but please do not make any changes to the live site (other than creating an artist-level user for yourself). As you may know, we're having trouble letting you into a staging site or sending you a backup due to the size of the site. We're still working on offloading the media library onto Amazon S3, but it's still a work in progress.

Please advise, thanks!

Nadav

First, most CPTs and other types of items are inaccessible via the Access Control page (see attached screenshot).
Please try this:
- Log in as the Toolset User (developer level)
- Go to Toolset > Access Control
- In the top admin bar, select language "Hebrew". In my test, this temporarily resolved the problem. When I switched back to English, the problem returned. Can you reproduce that with other developers as well?
- Since it seems language-specific, I suspect this is somehow related to WPML and Access permissions. If you temporarily deactivate all WPML plugins, does the Access Control page return to normal for the developer?

Second, I can't access any media items as a Developer level user (that's above administrator). I get the #no_privilege link and I am unable to go into the image edit pages from the media library.
As a temporary workaround, it's possible to edit these Media items by directly accessing the appropriate editor URL, like this:
hidden link
It looks like you can edit the columns in the Media list view to include the item ID, which you can use to build that URL.
To determine the possible source of this problem, can you temporarily deactivate all plugins except Types and Access, activate a default theme like Twenty Seventeen, then try again? If the problem is resolved, then there is most likely a conflict with another plugin causing this problem. Reactivate your theme and plugins one by one until the conflict is revealed. If the problem was not resolved, then we will need a clone of your site, or at least a database dump, so we can investigate in more detail.

The only way to check these things is on a staging site. Flywheel are now creating a fresh one for us to take a look at. Once it's ready I'll let you know. I'll appreciate if you can run all these tests on the demo site, as I already completely ran out of energy on trying to solve these recurring Toolset mysteries, almost every time there's a new update.

I'll keep you posted once the demo site is live. Thanks!

Hi Christian, I got a staging site working for us. How do I securely send you the login credentials?

Private reply fields are active here.

With only Toolset and WPML plugins active, the problem with Post Types in the Access Control editor screen cannot be replicated. I was trying to re-activate other plugins individually to find the conflict but I accidentally activated HTTPS and now I'm locked out. Do you have the ability to rename that plugin folder in the Flywheel Control Panel or otherwise?

#616157

Hmmm I was able to log in, anyway I deactivated Force HTTPS for you.

#616413

Hmm, is it possible that one of the other plugins I disabled manages my User profile somehow? Because I'm not able to log in using the credentials that worked yesterday.

#616418

I just tried logging in as you, using the details I provided yesterday, everything worked fine. Are you experiencing trouble with the WP login window or the privacy mode popup that comes before?

#616444

Ah yes, I opened a new incognito browser and it works for me now - I must have something cached in my regular browser that was causing the problem. I'll update you soon.

Is the staging site wp-admin working well for you? Admin Pages were loading very slowly (about 1 min per page load), then increased to about 2 mins. With multiple tabs open and loading, pages did not load at all and started throwing timeouts. I have a default theme and only the Give donation plugin active.

Before the timeouts started, I isolated the Access Control screen problem to a conflict between Access and Give Donation plugin. However, I have a testing environment set up where these two plugins are active, and the same problem does not occur. So that leads me to believe there is a configuration difference between our plugin setups. I will continue to investigate but with the slow response of the staging site it's going to take a while.

#616492

You're right, this is mad slow. I'm trying to get phone support from Flywheel. Be right back with answers.

#616552

Ugh, it's the Give plugin. If I disable it, site is blazing fast. Let me know if Flywheel is able to offer anything helpful.

#616581

Apparently their still working on it, doing a full site audit to see how staging can run smoothly. (remember, up until now you and I had to use clone demo sites for our troubleshooting but now Flywheel resized my storage box so that we can actually work on a staging site like the rest of the modern world). Will keep you posted.
