Types 1.4 and Views 1.3 Released

August 26, 2013

The most significant version of Toolset plugins is out today with Types 1.4 and Views 1.3. This new release makes both Types and Views a lot more fun and easy to use.

After a week of beta testing, we’ve very happy to release Types 1.4 and Views 1.3. Types boasts a complete GUI for all fields and Views comes with a brand new user interface and much improved workflow.

This release also comes with a set of tutorials, teaching you how to build a complete company website with Views and no coding at all.

For a detailed list of features, have a look at the beta announcement blog post, where we go over the major changes.

Attention: Multilingual Views with WPML

The only deprecated feature in Views 1.3 is about multilingual Views. Sure, you can still use Views with WPML. We do on all our sites. The change is, we’ve had to drop support for different Views per language. Instead, we very much polished support for one View, with translated texts, for all languages.

We want to help you with this data migration. If your site uses WPML and Views and you’ve created different Views for different languages, let us know. We’ll work with you to quickly move these translations to a single View, using String Translation. You can open a support thread about this in our forum and we’ll help you migrate the translations.

Coming Next to Types and Views

This new version of Types and Views is an important milestone, making it possible to accelerate feature development. Next, we’re planning:

Types

  • Automatic image cropping
  • Video and Audio fields
  • Color picker

These are the really small new additions for Types. We’re also working on a major user interface update, but it’s still not ready to write about.

Views

  • Data dependent custom searches
  • Post date filters
  • Complete GUI for featured image and other Views fields
  • Support for revisions for Views and Content Templates

And other features…

If you are using our Installer plugin, you should receive both Types and Views update directly to your WordPress admin. New updates appear about 12 hours after release.

You can also download and update manually from your wp-types account.

How is it Working for You?

We’re attention addicts and want to get your feedback. Leave us a comment here and we’ll get back to you.

  1. Just updated and everything’s been running smooth so far. We all love to know about the next big thing right after updating to the now-old next big thing :)… so:

    1) Isn’t the feature of querying and listing users with user meta on your agenda for the next Views release? We’ve been promised this for a while now.
    2) Also, the next big feature of CRED: creating, editing, and deleting users. Aren’t we close to see it yet?

    • Agree – The CRED Edit Meta User is such an important feature and desperately needed. Will upgrade to the new types and views tomorrow. Just had a hard day getting over all the new functions/ styles in Bootstrap 3 also released today and the work to upgrade that is daunting.

  2. BTW, you’ve got some work to do; updating all of those now-obsolete screenshots of Views in your online docs. Showcase the new GUI!

  3. I didn’t get much time on the beta version but using the 1.3 & 1.4 release and I’m impressed. Nice layout for editing views, I find it very easy to get around now.

Very exciting working with your products, they are just brilliant!

  4. Can you revive the option, so that i can see 100 views at one go, instead of going through pages to find my view. i’ve got 10 pages and it’s slowing us down..

    • Makes sense. In the meanwhile, did you notice the ‘search’ box at the top right? You can enter the View name and jump directly to it. Would this help?

      • We can make do with that, for now. But CTRL-F is definitely faster than searching. (We leave the 100views loaded in one tab)

  5. Hi Amir;

I’m having some issues with the types/views updates and posted a ticket 24 hours ago….no one has responded. Otherwise, I will have to uninstall the current versions and go back to the previous stable versions.

You guys really need to create specific forums for new releases so that any bugs and issues can be found in one place for an update.

I’d appreciate it if you would have someone get back to me on my ticket :

    • Are you running an older version of CRED? If so, please update CRED too and then clear your browser’s cache. If this is not the case, let me know. I’ll email you directly to get login details, as we’ll need to see it in your site. Thanks.

      • Good idea, I did not upgrade CRED because we always face problem with each release. Doing a step by step upgade will help to filter out problems.

        Will keep you guys updated!

  6. Just reported another bug here:

    https://toolset.com/forums/topic/bug-in-new-views-and-types/

plus the issue of WPML is also still present and has not been fixed with this release

    https://toolset.com/forums/topic/wpml-still-deleting-child-posts-even-after-upgrade-views-and-types/

I agree with William, you really do need to create a specific forum for bugs as it will help everyone keep track of what is going on. Another forum which would be great to have is where we can share trick and tips. Both forums are normally staples for plugins, let alone one as huge and powerful as toolset. Right now, the forums are really hard to follow.

    • We’re working through them. No worries, we’ll get everything sorted very quickly. There’s a problem with ‘bugs’ forum. We’ve tried that and it didn’t work. People (us included when we’re clients) want to get the fastest solution for whatever problem. We all know that bugs get priority. So what happens? Everything becomes a bug 🙂

Got an idea for a new feature? Not having it is a bug.
Compatibility with your theme (which we don’t have access to)? It’s a bug.
Documentation needs a new screenshot? It’s a bug.

I’m not complaining. It’s our job to handle things. What we’re doing after every release, like this one, is get more people into the support forum. So now, you see our developers a lot more active in support. It’s their job and they are happy to do it.

Trust me, making you happy is our top priority. We’re really doing our best and working through issues as fast as we can. Until everyone is happy and everything is stable, we’re not moving to any new development or new features.

      Does this help?

      • Hi Amir, I hear you and understand that everything becomes a bug and to be honest I have no issues with your support. I love it, I love toolset and you have some very good people on your team. Response time has always been quick – within 24 hours and some times even during weekends when to be honest, I do not expect anyone to reply.

I said this before, and I will say it again, I am a BIG BIG fan of toolset. I think it is one of the best, if not the best tools around for wordpress. It has let me do things I never thought I would do, and if you know the system we are building, you know how complex what we are building is 🙂 So really 5 stars does not cut it nor for the product and not even the support. Both deserve a higher rating.

  7. After upgrading the plugin to version 1.4.0.1, the PHP code has stopped displaying the fields in the HTML inside divs and spans. Before the update the fields were displayed inside divs eg. div#wpcf-field and spans eg. span.wpcf-field-name. The information is displayed in raw mode. I have not changed anything in my code recently.
