I am trying to set up a TEXT SEARCH for my CPTS.

I have set up the Relevanssi Pro Plugin.

I have created my View and add the text search field and told it to search Titles, Content and Custom Fields... and I have defined and configured everything in the Relevanssi and TOOLSET Settings page(s).

I have read your documentation but I am still very sonfused as to where and how to display my search results.

I want the TEXT SEARCH field to be displayed on the home page of my site. But I want the results to be displayed on a different page of my site.

If I set it up that way (views Search form on the Home Page and the View resuts on a separate page) and insert the appropriate Fields and Views shortcodes on the appropriate pages, it seems like all of the results that end up being displayed simply use my Views loop to display the output and it ignores the Relevanssi output results.

What am I doing wrong??

Hi Ned

I just set up a local test to confirm that this works as it should, which it does on my installation.

Can I double-check what you expect to happen?

"it seems like all of the results that end up being displayed simply use my Views loop to display the output and it ignores the Relevanssi output results"

When you use Relevanssi with Views, the matching posts are determined by Relevanssi, but the output is generated by your View, and you shouldn't expect any output from Relevanssi itself.

So if I have a CPT with a custom field and I have set Relevanssi up to index both, then when I create a View with text search I should expect it to return the posts with the matching custom field, displayed according to the Loop Output section of my View.

In testing it makes no difference whether the results are on the same page or a different page.

Hi Nigel,

OK that is clear now. I belive my issue had a lot to do with Relevanssi not indexing all of my posts and throwing errors..

It was also confusing in your documentation that the Views output is actually used in the search results. (I think I saw in a past forum post that the Views Output is ignored. Maybe the documentation could be made a bit clearer?)

Now that all of the posts are indexed and I no longer have any Relevanssi errors, the search resutls are as expected.

Thank you very much for your prmpt response.
