[Résolu] Toolset and Full Site Editing (FSE)

Ce fil est résolu. Voici une description du problème et la solution proposée.

Problem:
Toolset and Full Site Editing (FSE)

Solution:
we are aware of the upcoming FSE capabilities that will start to get included in WordPress 5.8.

The whole idea behind FSE is that the layout of a site should be editable without the need to compose custom themes. However, there are some key differences between what FSE will provide and what Toolset provides.

As a starter, single posts templates in FSE behave pretty much as theme templates: one template to rule all posts of a given type. Toolset gives much more control on which template should be used for each post. In addition, Toolset provides Dynamic Sources, which ensure that blocks used in a template will produce the right content for every post using the template; the mechanism to load dynamic content in templates crated with FSE is not clear yet. Finally, archives created with Toolset offer total freedom for layout and content design, while the new Query block for FSE is still too narrow in capabilities and options.

I have a few questions regarding the workflow that may change in the near future due to the release of a new version of WordPress 5.8.
You guys probably follow the news and know that soon it will be possible to edit templates for CPT's, header and footer in the admin panel using Gutenberg. This is great, because now the Gutenberg interface will easily allow you to insert any block, for example, into a header. This experience is similar to using Layouts in the past, but certainly much more effective. A new Query block will also appear. These innovations intersect at some points with what the Toolset does. Of course, Toolset Blocks are much more powerful than the Query block from WordPress, but nevertheless ... I am currently doing several projects and I have questions.
1. Is it worth in the future to create a content template using Views / Blocks, or is it necessary to use the standard features of the WordPress (FSE)?
2. Is there a Blog post or documentation about the upcoming changes and plans for the integration Toolset? What do you think about this?

Hello. Thank you for contacting the Toolset support.

I checked with the Devs and here is the update:

We have plans to evaluate whether Dynamic Sources can be integrated with templates and archives designed with FSE, because we know that, as expected, they are just not working out of the box.

On the question on whether it is better to use Toolset or wait for FSE, this depends in the end on a personal decision. Toolset templates and archives are well established, work with almost all themes and will continue working in the future. FSE is still in its early stages and the mechanism to load dynamic content is not totally well defined yet, but we are sure it will become more robust with time.

I hope this helps and answers your questions.
