Hello Toolset Support,

We have purchased a Toolset license and downloaded Types 3.6.4.

Our existing WordPress Multisite uses Types 2.2.23, with custom post types (news, resident, image), custom fields, and post relationships. Both English and Japanese themes use `types_render_field()` extensively.

We have upgraded our staging environment to WordPress 6.2.8, currently running PHP 7.4. We plan to move to PHP 8.2 or later.

Could you confirm whether Types 2.2.23 can be upgraded directly to 3.6.4, or whether intermediate versions and specific database migration steps are required?

We want to preserve all existing content, custom fields, and relationships.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to Toolset support.

It is natural that something might not work along the way when you want to upgrade from an older version. But yes, go straight from 2.2.23 to 3.6.4. No intermediate versions. Having a complete backup or checking this on a staging version of the website is the key.

Post types, fields, and `types_render_field()` all keep working.

Relationships are the only decision. Types 3.0 moved them into their own table. Yours keep working after the upgrade through a compatibility layer, so nothing breaks if you leave them. To get the new features, run the migration at **Toolset > Relationships**, once per subsite. Back up the database first. Note that two one-to-many relationships stay as two, they do not merge into one many-to-many.

Order on staging: back up, update WordPress (6.2.8 is from 2023), update Types, check your content, migrate relationships if you want them, then PHP 8.2 last.

Thanks.
