Post reference - Toolset

This is the technical support forum for Toolset - a suite of plugins for developing WordPress sites without writing PHP.

Everyone can read this forum, but only Toolset clients can post in it. Toolset support works 6 days per week, 19 hours per day.

Is it possible to use Post Reference with the same Post Type? Currently the post type i greyed out.

Hi,

Welcome to Toolset support. No — a Post Reference field cannot target the same post type. In the PRF dialog the current post type is intentionally greyed-out. Self-relationships (same-CPT ↔ same-CPT) aren’t supported in Toolset’s relationships either.

Alternative: Use a helper CPT to model the link (when you must connect two items of the same CPT).

Create a small “Link/Connection” CPT and use it to relate the two items, e.g. with two Post Reference fields pointing to your main CPT, or with a relationship where the helper CPT holds the connections. This is the workaround our support recommends for same-type links.
