Hi,

I am trying to update the latest version of the Types plugin. I keep getting a failed to update message:

Update failed: Download failed. Forbidden

I see other's tickets where it is suggested to do this manually. I tried to update via the new plugin UI, but the browser timed out. I could use FileZilla to do this but would rather not as I would prefer to get this fixed. Also I presume that using would temporarily interfere with the appearance of Types related elements while in the process of uploading…internet is very slow here.

Should I get onto my hosting (SiteGround), would this be a file permissions issue? Other plugin updates work fine and other sites I manage on SiteGround had no issues with the Types update.

Hello,

It is a server issue, I suggest you check these:
1) Follow WordPress document to setup folder permissions:
https://wordpress.org/support/article/changing-file-permissions/
2) Try to upload one of other simple plugin, for example:
https://wordpress.org/plugins
make sure your website can upload plugin manually.

Hi Lou,

Thanks for getting back to me. I had a quick scan of the WP documentation. Looking at the WP install via FileZilla I see that all directories are 755 and files are 644 as I would expect. I checked other installs of WP where I haven't had issues installing Toolset and they use the same permissions. I need to read that documentation again though as I see that it mentions permissions of 775 for directories and 664 for files for certain situations…but I am not sure this is my issue here. I also have no other issues with plugin installs and updates with other plugins.

I am wondering is it a specific hosting/firewall issue with my Siteground account?

So I got onto SiteGround support. They can confirm that the permissions are correct. They even tried the update themselves. I can just do a reinstall with FileZilla but you might want to figure out why this is happening?

In the end I went ahead and used the new plugin upload to overwrite the older version of Types.
