Google just announced that they will be slashing the free use limits in half and will implement a more or less temporary $200 monthly credit on their services.

Websites that would be able to use Google Maps free before now may have to pay upwards of $500/mo based on this plan.

To this end I would like to suggest to include support for other Maps APIs in toolset maps, or to release other versions using other APIs. Such as leafletjs (lien caché).

Hi Adrian,

Thank you for contacting our support forum.

Thank you for the suggestion. I will be opening an escalated ticket with this.

Would you mind sending me a link to the page for this article on Google so I can provide this to our team as well ?

Thanks,
Shane

Hi Shane,

For sure. Here is the article:
lien caché

Here is the link:
lien caché
They have some alternatives in there (didn't realize leaflet still needs a map provider)

And here is an interesting Reddit conversation around this:
lien caché

A good alternative provider would be open street maps lien caché, just an idea.

Thank you

The current Maps plugin should also support secured keys. Currently I can't secure any keys, and this will open me up to theft in the future. You can't leave the plugin like this or it will turn into a liability for both site owners and you (On the Go Systems).

Hi Adrian,

I've posted the information to our 2nd tier support so that they can take it to our development team. Also our plugin does support the use of secured keys however very frequently customers are not able to use these.

This might be because of the host or the format of the URL that google expects.

Thanks
Shane
