I'm about to make major updates to a site that I developed using the Toolset Starter Theme and Layouts.
I used Layouts to create all the headers, footers and sidebars.
I want to use the latest Toolset technology (Blocks), but I fear I'll have to de-activate Layouts, and so replace the theme.
Can you confirm that this is the case, please? If that is the case, is there a "conversion" guide (I couldn't find one), and what are your recommendations for replacement theme options?
Thanks
Alex
Hi Alex,
Thank you for contacting us and I'd be happy to assist.
Your understanding is correct and at the moment, the newer Toolset Blocks editor can't be used as a theme builder that controls the full page structure/layout (with repeating headers, footers, and sidebars sections), the same way as is possible with the Layouts.
This means that you have the following options:
1. You can switch to one of the recommended themes for controlling the page's structure:
https://toolset.com/documentation/recommended-themes/
And for the content part, you'll be using the Block's editor.
OR
2. If you're comfortable with using Layouts plugin as a theme builder, you can continue to use it.
But that would mean that you'll be using the classic Toolset editor and not the Blocks editor for the content, as we don't recommend using it with the Layouts.
And there is no conversion guide available for moving to Blocks editor because we suggest to use it only for new projects and not convert the existing ones to it, as the workflow and the design process is quite different.
The idea is to encourage users to explore the features and options available in the new Blocks editor and keep improving them in light of their feedback and suggestions.
And when a user feels that it fits the requirements for a particular project's design, he/she is welcome to adopt it.
I hope this makes sense and please let me know if you need any further assistance around this.
regards,
Waqar
Thanks, Waqar.
That's clarified/confirmed what my options are.
My issue is resolved now. Thank you!
Alex
