custom filter interfere with other fields filters

This is a follow-up from:

I need the suggested filter, to work in addition (AND) to the filters I have defined through the GUI. I have just noticed that when the new filter code is activated, GUI defined filters are ignored. I need them all to work together with AND. Please let me know how is that possible?
