[Resuelto] WPMU Dev Plugin Defender Pro blocks IP when using Toolset

Este hilo está resuelto. Aquí tiene una descripción del problema y la solución.

Problem:

If I have deleted some images from the media library by mistake but if the URLs in the custom image fields had been retained, even then I would have the 404 errors.. right?

Solution:

Yes, you are right, if you delete image from the media library, you would have the 404 errors.

And before you delete the image from the media library, you should be able to see the image is "Uploaded To" some page/post.

Tell us what you are trying to do?

When I am using toolset as an admin there have been times when I've been locked out by a security feature of Defender Pro that protects the server from getting too many requests as per this description

With 404 detection enabled, Defender will keep an eye out for IP addresses that repeatedly request pages on your website that don't exist and then temporarily block them from accessing your site.

This has happened quite a few times to me when I am working with toolset templates and I am a bit worried if this happens on the frontend too... coz that would potentially block some of my users..

Can you please help me understand the cause of this so that I can fix it?

Is there any documentation that you are following?

Is there a similar example that we can see?

What is the link to your site? enlace oculto

Hello,

When you login to your website dashboard, Toolset plugin will check your Toolset site key, and display the plugin update information.

Please try to add the "api.toolset.com" into the white list of your Defender Pro plugin, and test again.

Hi Luo

Thanks for the update..:-)..

I'll do as you said and add the site.. but not sure if it allows a domain name but I'll check the option.. would it be possible to have the IP for this?

But frankly by adding the domain or IP to the whitelist I would be only enabling that IP to not be blocked in case of continuous 404 errors.. that's not really the issue..

The issue is when I as a user am using the site.. so let's say I have just created a view where I am yet to add a query.. so I've selected a view and asked it to display an image in a dynamic way.. and as I have not yet added a query, it would display the 100 or 200 or whatever number of products I have.. during this process is there a chance of it making any 404 error requests?

The reason I am giving you this example is that I think once it happened while I was doing.. frankly I am not sure if that was the reason but I am a bit concerned as I really can't reproduce the issue.. so I am trying to figure out if it's something while I am creating a view or does it affect a user who is seeing the result of the view?

Please do advise.

Regards,
Alim

The domain name api.toolset.com uses different IP address depends on your location, so it is recommended to use domain name in whitelist.

For the 404 issue, it is abnormal.
Please check those image files are existed in your website, and the image URL are correct, if it does exist and correct, then you will need to check it with the plugin author of "Defender Pro", Toolset plugins won't prevent those static files from front-end displaying.

Hi Luo

That's an important point.. what you mentioned.. that the images should not be missing..

So if I understand this correctly, if i were to create a view which would display 200 images and of these some images were no longer there or deleted then it would be causing a 404 error.. and in this case the 404 errors would be in a matter of seconds.. so technically Defender Plugin would be doing it's job (and also Toolset).. so it's not really a bug but something I have to be careful about..

And if this is true.. then would such a scenario affect a user on the frontend too? I mean if I had a view provided to a user and I displayed a 100 results and 20 images were faulty URLs or missing images for some reason, then too this problem could occur.. am I right in my assumption?

Please do advise.

Alim

I assume we are talking about a custom image field, and you are using remote image URL(other website) in the field value, if the image files are deleted, as a result, it will display as 404 error in front-end, this expected result.

You will need to consider to save those image files in your own website media library, manage them by your own website.

Hi Luo

Actually it's on my own media library.. but I was concerned that if I have deleted some images from the media library by mistake but if the URLs in the custom image fields had been retained, even then I would have the 404 errors.. right?

Thanks Luo for the update..:-)..

I have normally messages in my inbox from WPMU that warn me about any 404 links they find on my site and it's something I regularly watch.. but let me check this again.. and see if this issue is connected or if it's something else.. for now I'll close this ticket.. if the issue crops up again, I'll let you know..:-)..

Have a nice day..:-)..
