Hi there,

I wanted to update the Toolset plugins I´m using on the site hidden link.
After updating Types (from Version 1.8.5 to 2.2.13) the site was completely gone – no FrontEnd, no Backend, just an empty page, not even a php error or anything. So for now I restored the plugin from a backup.

So the question is:
What procedure I need to follow to update the site? ????

I wanted to update because I realized that the image-upload-buttons in my post-type where not working any more (see screenshot attached).

Many thanks in advance!!!
Manuel

Hi Manuel,

Thank you for contacting our support forum.

Actually you are coming from a very old version of types so the possibility of something going wrong is very likely, however looking at your current php version 5.3 which is below the minimum requirements for wordpress itself.

What I would recommend that you do is to update your php version to at least version 5.6 to maintain maximum compatibility.

Please let me know if this helps.
Thanks,
Shane

Hi Shane,

ok, thanks.
I will update the php version first.

Do you think after this it will be possible to update the toolset plugins?

Cheers,
Manuel

Hi Manuel,

I cannot say whether this will resolve the issue but this is where I would start my debugging.

Thanks,
Shane

Hi Shane,

thanks again! 🙂

The php-version is updated now (to 5.6.10).

I tried to update Types again – same thing: blank screen 🙁
So I went back to the previous version for now.

Can you recommend how I could proceed?
Updating WordPress? I´m a bit afraid that this will end up in a big mess. 🙂

Thanks a lot for taking your time!

Hi Manuel,

I would highly suggest creating a clone of this site and then updating everything as I see your wordpress is out of date as well 🙁

Creating a safe environment where you can do the updates and then we can work on the issues on that test site.

Thanks,
Shane

Hi Shane,

ok, thanks.

I created a clone which is now running locally on my machine (via MAMP, PHP Version 5.6.30).

After updating Types in this clone it was happening the same thing (Error 500).
Now I updated WP to 4.8 without problems but updating Types results still in blank screen (Error 500).

Any ideas? 🙂

Cheers,
Manuel

Some more information what I just tried, maybe that´s helpful ...

1. I switched to PHP version 7.0.15 –> Error 500 (blank screen)

2. went back to PHP Version 5.6.30 –> site running again

3. deactivated all plugins, switched to PHP 7.0.15 –> site running (without plugins of course)

4. activated plugin by plugin –> Site is working until I activate Types or Views.
If I activate Types –> Error 500 (blank screen)
if I activate Views –> Error message in backend (see screenshot attached)

5. So for now I went back to PHP 5.6.30 and Types and Views are running again.

Hi Manuel,

Could you enable the wordpress debugging by following the instructions in the link below.

I would like to see what error is being thrown.
hidden link

Once you've enabled the debugging please let me know the error that is being thrown.

Thanks,
Shane

#537219

Ok, I activated the debugging mode as described.

But where am I supposed to see the error messages? 🙂

Can´t find any errors message, neither in back- nor in frontend.

If I update Types and then refresh the page the blank screen comes up, but no errors.
Same thing if I switch to PHP version 7.0.15 (with having Types/Views activated): blank screen but no errors either.

Also in the wp-content folder I can´t find the "debug.log file" which is mentioned in the comments in the inmotionhosting-description.

Can you give me a hint where I have to search for the error-messages? 🙂

Bye,
Manuel

Hi Manuel,

That is strange, would it be possible to provide me with a duplicator package of the site so I can debug it here on my localhost?

To provide the duplicator package please have a look at the link below.
https://toolset.com/faq/provide-supporters-copy-site/

Thanks,
Shane

#537506

Hi Shane,

great, thanks for dealing with this!

You can download the duplicator-package here:
hidden link

Pls note: I created this package from the server-version, not from my local copy. So in this version the WP debug mode is not enabled already!

How do I provide you the login details?

Bye,
Manuel

Hi Manuel,

I tested the duplicator and it was completely broken. Could you provide a duplicator package of a working copy.

Thanks,
Shane

Hi Manuel,

I got it to work and was able to update the plugins successfully.

What I did was to rename the views and types folders and then download fresh copies of the plugins from the link below.

https://toolset.com/account/downloads/

Then I installed those fresh copies and everything worked perfectly fine.

Please let me know if this helps.
Thanks,
Shane

Hi Shane,

thanks for testing, that sounds promising! ????

Just to be sure that I understand it correctly ... that´s what you did:
1. rename the Views/Types folders (in e.g. "views-old", "types-old")
2. then you installed fresh and up to date copies of Views/Types
3. you trashed the old folders

Right?
Did you add the new versions manually (by uploading the folders via FTP) or through the installation routine in the WP-Backend?

Thanks again and have a great weekend!
Manuel
